NIXON HEADPHONES

The Victorious Jadson Andre

Good afternoon crew! How about that final yesterday. Jadson Andre vs Kelly Slater. Jadson, tour rookie and youngest person on the tour, took out Kelly for the win. Jadson won infront of the home crowd and he was stoked! The crowd went nuts, it was a great webcast to watch. With Kelly's second place finish he was able to take over the points lead on the ASP ranking system and is that much closer to becoming Sl10ter! Statistically when Kelly gets himself to first place it is very rare that he dips back below number one. With the ASP cutoff only two events away and Slater taking control of the leader board this year is shaping up to be the most competitive ever! The count down is on, only 75 days till J-Bay goes down. You've got plenty of time to get your fantasy team in order so get on it and check out the highlights from yesterdays final below!

I haven't said anything about this yet and since things only seem to be getting worse I might as well bring it up. The BP offshore oil rig that exploded earlier this week is now believed to be leaking 210,000 gallons of crude oil in to our ocean EVERYDAY! And they want to open up the rest of the US coastline to offshore oil drilling??? The spill has now been labeled an "incidence of national significance" which means that now federal money and the military will be used to help clean up this mess. It makes the off shore wind farm off of Cape Cod, that just got approval after years of red tape, seem like such a better idea. Too bad we didn't start setting up wind farms years ago. At the moment the ban on offshore drilling is back in effect and I hope it stays that way. The Gulf Coast, especially Louisiana, is in some serious danger of having their fishing industries destroyed. Lets hope they get this situation under control as soon as possible and more offshore windfarms in the works.

Quote of the day comes from Bill Maher, "Every a-hole who ever chanted 'Drill baby drill' should have to report to the Gulf coast today for cleanup duty."

Quick little video from the BBC HERE. This is crazy...

Billabong Pro Final Day of Action!

My fantasy team is crushing it!!! Semis are about to star and 3 of the 4 surfers are on the team! Live action HERE. I'm Freaking OUT!!!! Three heats left to go before the champion is crowned! Jadson vs Dane and Owen vs Kelly. Who's it gonna be! The announcers are looking for a Dane vs Kelly final! I however am looking for a Jadson vs Kelly final! We got waves of our own happening today. Steve is calling it shin high but I got a feeling there are some knee high sets out there too. Saw a couple people out at the wall on SUPs this morning getting some long rides.

The local longboard skateboard crew! Every time they come in they teach me something new about the fine art of longboarding, and they come in alot! They speak their own language of slide formula, drop thru, orangoutang wheels, and push up slides. Most of the time I humor them but they claim to have a video in the works, can't wait to see it!

New skate decks from local brand creep show! Get one now!

Team rider Dave Bachinsky. Words can't describe how hard Dave rips. Get this kid a new pair of shoes!

Our Team KILLS IT!

Here is our crew! Our boys and girls rip! This picture was taken in NJ this past weekend at the Schooled Series final. From left to right here is the line up. Jon McParland finished 3rd overall middle school division, Eamon Samojla 1st overall middle school division, Nora Vasconcellos 1st overall high school girls division, Zac Rose 2nd overall high school division, and Nick Rose 3rd overall elementary school division. Five rippers all top 3, check the video below for some action from the contest!

Super fun waves this morning. It was almost like a replay of this past Sunday. Waist high sets maybe even a little bigger on occasion. Light offshore winds and hardly anyone out. I surfed the wall with Buck and our buddy JJ. Got in nice and early got a grip of waves and still had tons of time to cruise with the dog and eat a good breakfast! Wind is still offshore and the waves are reading 3 feet at 11 seconds. The tide is high but if you look around I know there are some fun waves out there to be found. Go get some because it looks pretty week for the rest of the week!

Yesterday brought us a box of almost 30 new watches from NIXON. So many colors and styles and almost half of them are tide watches. Not to much for the ladies but there are a bunch on the way. Here are a sampling of some of the watches from NIXON.

How about that little sneaker swell yesterday morning. When I got up at 6 and checked the buoys they were reading 6 foot at 11 seconds. I couldn't get out of the house fast enough and ended up logging a good 2 hour session at the rocks and another hour at the hill. Chest high plus sets and only friends in the water! What a day!!! Pretty much everyone I spoke with yesterday had a great session. All the beaches where firing as were most of the other spots! I wish we could have swells like that everyday. There were still some fun leftovers hanging around this morning. Thigh high sets with glassy conditions. Who got some???

I'm starting to think Steph surfs better than some of the men on the World Tour

The Lane Beachley Classic finished up yesterday in fun surf. All the girls were ripping but Steph Gilmore is on a role and posted another W on the scoreboard! The Pioneers Fantasy team did not do so well this event. Steph was on the team and got us a win but the rest of the ladies got knocked out in round 3 and the quarters. I'm thinking it might be time to drop a few of the dead weights we got on the team.

The Men also surfer yesterday in Brazil . The boys have surfed through round two and round 3 competition will hopefully resume tomorrow. All the Brazilian surfers are looking super strong as is the rest of the top 10. Hopefully the surf starts to pump and we get to see the boys rip. Kelly is looking strong and if he wins here things are going to get real interesting. Could this be the year of Sl10ter???

Finless Shred Sled!!!!

Steve and I spend serious time checking out wave and wind models every day so that we know what is on tap for surf. Our buddy Brian just made things a whole lot easier for us and shaped this little beauty up. It's pretty simple to use, when the stick is pointing down, get your work done and when the stick is curled up to the sky, get to the beach. So that it that, the new forecasting tool, no more computers, life is simple again! Thanks Brian!

Lots and lots of new Pioneers Tees

and Hoodies!

Our buddy Mike is a ripper and he is damn good at making anything. We call him The Lord of the Dings because there ain't nothing the man can't fix. Mike shapes most of his own boards and is an established glass blower. Mike told me about this new finless surfboard we was working on and I knew it was going to be good but this thing is just insane! He made the whole board from stuff he bought from Home Depot and it cost him under $100 bucks. I can't wait to see Mike ride this thing!
5'7 x 19 x 1 7/8 but he swears it will float me, I wish.

Mike and Steve talking shop about what the next one might look like.

Today's deal is wear a Pioneers Tee to the shop and get 5% off surfboard and wetsuit purchases and 10% off everything else! Get Some!!!! There is a really nice little longboard wave in town today and it should be hanging around tomorrow morning too. It's a beautiful day, get out there and enjoy it.

Push Don't Pollute, It's Earth Day!!!

By James O'Hara

Good morning folks! It sure is a beautiful day. We had about 15 people cruise down to the Wall this morning and help us pick up trash in honor of Earth Day. Our friend Mark at Irving hooked it up and provided coffee, donuts, and muffins for everyone! We picked up a ton of cigarette butts and water bottle caps and I can tell you a bunch of people earned some good karma points this summer. When you see some guy in the water who seems to have all the luck picking off the best waves it's because they pick up trash at the beach! We have four clean-ups scheduled in combination with Vans that we will be running throughout the summer and our friends over at NH Surfrider also have clean-up scheduled throughout the year. Plenty of times and opportunities to pitch in and earn some set waves.

I wish we could have all surfed together after our beach sweep but the tide at the wall was pretty high and the waves just weren't getting in. However, now that the tide has back out it looks like there are some fun knee high logging sets rolling through. I am out at 2 today and you can bet I am gonna have a look around when I get outta here!
HERE is a quick link to some other happenings in NH on this 40th Earth Day Anniversary.

Saw this trailer for the new Reef surf film called From Cancer to Capricorn. It looks really good and I will be ordering some of these for the video case when they become available. Check it out! Full screen it and turn it up! Good song from The Dutchess & The Duke!

We got 3 more HUGE boxes of Reef Sandals in today! I think I will be unpacking these boxes for the next few days! Our selection is insane, come check them all out!

Enjoy the day, ride your bike, rip your skate, pick up some trash, and plant a tree!

Change...

We just got the new copy of Surfing Magazine in today. I saw the words "the end of the innocence" and was wondering what they are talking about now. As I was reading the editors note I realized they are talking about change. Do you think surfing is changing? I do, but after reading through most of this issue I realize how fast surfing is changing. Rookies and arial surfers are beating the legends of the sport. The NY Times is claiming airs are the $h*t. Boards just keep getting shorter, wider, and full of more fins. Young guns like Kolohe Andino are signing million dollar contracts with companies like nike, target, and red bull). The way the ASP operates is undergoing some radical changes as is the judging criteria.

This is change this is progression. Surfing is exploding and it is going to be crazy to see where it is in 2020. However, I think things will stay just the way they are around here. Other than having some different shaped boards, we'll keep surfing, we'll keep living, we'll stay on the fringe of the surf industry and keep enjoying our uncrowded and cold surf. That's fine with me, I just keep using my computer to see where surf is going next. If you see the mag somewhere pick one up. It's a good read, and there is a great little piece about a surf mission to the Sahara coast.

Lots of new gear in the shop today...

Reef Sandals

Longboard Wheels from Abec 11
And some more Volcom Gear!

Just got in from a mid day surf session. Rode the Lost RNFQ and I can honestly say that there are some really fun waist plus sets rolling through. The wind is kinda on it but the Sun is shining and there are waves go get some!!!

Green foam Blanks, consider one of these for your next custom order! Made out of recycled foam from old and broken surfboards.

Earth Day Beach Sweep tomorrow morning. 8am, 12th street, I'll bring some trash bags, we'll collect some trash, and we'll go for a surf if there is anything still hanging around.

New Stewart Surfboards In The Shop Today!!!!

I've been avoiding riding my longboard lately. I don't really have a good reason for doing so but I think it has something to do with getting all rubbered up for knee high waves. But my 6 month hiatus from the 10'0 ended this morning with a solo session on knee high waves. When I first paddled out I was in my get three fun waves and get out mode. Three fun waves came and went and in reality I probably caught 2 dozen fun ones in my session. Getting a good hang five can be as fun as getting a nice little slash off the lip on the shortboard. I'm glad I paddled out because I remember how fun riding the LOG can be and I am looking forward to some more knee high waves tomorrow morning!

Stewart California Noserider in 9'4

The Estes truck rolled into the parking lot first thing this morning with 8 brand new, hand shaped Stewart Surfboards. Here is the packing list:

A 9'2, a 9'4, and a 9'6 California Noserider. This is easily on of the most well rounded longboards on the market. Knee high noserides to overhead cutbacks. This board really can do it all.

Next up is the 6'6 and 6'8 S-Rail Fish both with quad fin set ups. This board combines the flotation and speed of a retro fish with the performance of today's modern shortboard. Adding one of these into your quiver is a good way to make mushy waves fun again!

We also got a 9'0 LSW S-Winger and a 9'4 Regal. These boards are polar opposites but both amazingly crafted. The Regal is all retro. Its very flat and thick. Single fin only and great for days like today. Not to mention this is one of the prettiest surfboards I have seen in a long time. The LSW is the most updated performance longboard in the Stewart line. It has a double winged pin tail and is meant to be surfed with 5 fins all the time. This board looks crazy and when you make it out of epoxy it's super light and I can only Imagine how hard it rips!

The last board in the order is a 7'6 fun board. It looks awesome but that's all I am gonna say because this little beauty is already spoken for!

Stewart Regal in a 9'4

A cool thing happened today, after I unpacked all those boards I was looking at this massive pile of foam padding. With Earth day coming up and trying to think green I didn't want to see all that foam go into the dumpster so I called the UPS store up the street and they came right over grabbed it and told us they would reuse it when packing boxes. I thought that was rad and goes along with our push here to be more environmentally conscious. I got this idea from a website called earth911 and if you have a few minutes it's worth checking out. The are a great resource for finding ways and places to recycle things you normally might throw away. They also have 40 tips for the 40th Earth Day!

Thanks for reading I hope everyone got some fun ones the past few days.
Beach Sweep at the Wall, 12th street, 8 am on Thursday!

See you in the water...

Earth Day Beach Sweep

It felt so good to be in the water yesterday! I started off at the Wall on the longboard but quickly traded that thing off for the Lost RNFQ once the tide dropped and some waist high rippers started filtering through the lineup. I got a second session in too. Super fun! Waves this morning look fun too. Little logging sets at sunrise and all reports and forecasts say it's going to get a little bigger as the day goes on. Waist high, maybe bigger??? I hope so because when I lock the door here I am heading straight to the beach to hopefully get a session!

This Thursday is the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. As surfers, skaters, and snowboarders we spend a lot of time outside interacting with our environment. Whether you're riding a wave, slashing some pow, or skating at your local park you're enjoying the environment. Pioneers has taken a lot of steps in the past few years to become a greener shop. We recycle about 90% the waste generated at the shop, we support local and green businesses like Jimbo's Surf Wax, Lib Tech, and Birdswell, we like selling epoxy surfboards because they last much longer than poly boards, and we host multiple beach cleanups throughout the year.

I also see changes happening from within the sports that we love and support. Surfboards are now being made using more sustainable methods like wood, recycled foam, and bamboo glass. And wetsuits get more eco-friendly every year. The new Oniell RG8 (regenerate) suit is made with recycled neoprene and plastic bottles and is due to drop late this summer. Skateboard companies are testing bamboo decks, recycled wheels, and skate shoes made from leftover materials. Lastly, snowboard companies like Lib Tech are implementing soy based waxes and bases along with bio plastic topsheets made from castor beans. Lib Tech is also the most environmentally friendly snowboard factory in the industry. Not to mention they are as local as a snowboard company can be in today's world.

In honor of Earth Day this year Pioneers will be sponsoring an EARTH DAY BEACH SWEEP AT THE WALL ON THURSDAY. Because the tide is high at 6 am I think we should meet at 12th street at 8 am and give our beloved Wall and surf spot a quick cleaning. I know that most people who usually show up to our clean ups will be working so no worries, I know the support is there. But I'll be there and if anyone wants to join me to pick up some garbage and trade some waves it would be awesome! Hopefully the rain holds off and I will be able to ride my bike down!

Keeping with the Eco theme I am gonna run with all week I watched No Impact Man last night. It is a great little film about a family that lives in NYC with as little impact on the environment as one can have. It is a great film and will get you in the Earth Day spirit. Check it out if you haven't already. The main character and author, Colin, also keeps a blog also titled No Impact Man that always has some interesting thoughts and readings on it. Check that HERE.

Enjoy the day and lets hope we all get some fun waves at some point this afternoon.
