Someone Pulls a Toyna Harding on Steph Gilmore...

Just got wind of some breaking news from Australia. Surfing's first lady, Steph Gilmore, was attacked by an intruder at her home yesterday afternoon. It appears some lowlife struck her with an iron pipe in the head and then as she turned to defend herself the second blow struck her wrist and broke it. Her neighbors came to her aide and the attacker was later taken into custody. That's some crazy stuff!!! She is claiming she'll be out of the water for 6 weeks and the hope is that she'll be back in action for the Roxy Pro in February. The full article is HERE and the following video was recently posted on youtube. Smells kinda suspect... Toyna Harding anyone??????

Dane is the BEST!!!! We share similar feelings when it comes to 60 footers. If you haven't made it to his blog yet check out MarineLayerProductions HERE. He also released a free film this year called Seen/Unseen. It's Dane all the way. Check out both his film and his 2010 surfers poll acceptance speech below.

In other radical and shredtacular news it Gavin O'hara's BIRTHDAY today!!! He's got the whole family down at the Amesbury tubing park going bananas. I bet Steve has got a little Clark Grizwald spray up his sleeve and the whole family is going wicked fast!
Happy Birthday big man!

Should be a fun skate session tonight at Rye. The team should be there putting on a vert show and we'll be shredding the clover bowl and such. Come skate with us. Pioneers crew 6-9!!!

POWDER DAYS

16 feet one day, zero the next, that's the down side of a good ol' fashion Nor Easter. But the sun is out and everything is covered in snow, the dog and I got some fresh tracks this morning in the woods by our house. The wind continues to howl and it appears we're going to finish the year with a bit of a flat spell. The good news is most of the mountains got more snow than originally expected. Gunstock picked up 16 inches, Waterville scored 9 inches, Sunday River got a solid 19 inches and Wildcat wins with 28 inches. We've had lots of people who either are on there way or just got back from the mountains and the stoke is HIGH with everyone. Yesterday was a killer powder day and I'm willing to bet there is plenty more out there today if you know where to look.

I've yet to make it to the hill this year but seeing all the white stuff and hearing about everyones day on the mountain has got me motivated to get out there sooner rather than later. The two for Tuesday night sessions at Gunstock should be back in full swing after the first of the year so get prepared for those! We're still pretty well stocked with snow gear so if you need anything we're here for you. Boards, boots, binding, jackets, pants, and all the little accessories you need to make it happen! Since it's flat you might as well make the most of winter and go shred the great white north!!!

OUR SKATE TEAM IS KILLING IT!!!!!!! This short of Zac Rose and Nolan Monroe was shot by Michael Sander on the new vert ramp at Rye and it's so sick!!! Watch it, tell your friends, and go SKATE!!!!!!!

POW TURNS AND CUTBACKS!!!!

That's what a good ol' fashion Nor Easter is supposed to deliver and deliver it has. Our buddy Brandon was on the first chair at Bretton Woods and he's claiming waist deep pow turns and face shots. The surf is pumping and the wind is starting to swing around a little bit. The buoys are currently reading 16 ft @ 11 seconds and as the wind goes more westerly we should see some organizing/cleaning up happening. An afternoon session should be the call! The snow is still falling and the wind is still howling!!! WINTER IS THE BEST!!! I hope 2011 is filled with plenty of blizzardcanes!!!

The RUN REDUX is IN!!! We've had lots of requests and now the wait is over. The Run Redux chronicles the amazing run of surfing we've had this past year. There is over 75 minutes of local footage and a killer sound track comprised of local bands and musicians. Get your copy at Pioneers!

WE GOT WAVES!!!!!!!

Anyone else surprised at the size of the waves this morning??? I know I was, especially while I was trolling along the bottom at the rocks this morning. Steve is claiming "Possibly one of the best sessions I've ever had. Double overhead, snowing, and solo. Not bad for the first day of winter." Judging by the cams the waves still look great now. Winds off shore and the waves are clean! Should be the same tomorrow and Thursday. Looks like Christmas is here early... SURFING!

The First stop of the 2010/2011 Dew Tour kicked off this past weekend. Two of NH's finest made the top ten with Scotty in 8th and Chaz in 3rd. That means NH is holding down 20 percent of the leaders board and that ain't bad. Check the full story and photos HERE.
RADNESS..... Just picked up on this project. The camera work and cast both look well rounded. Papa New Guinea is certainly a place of mystery. Check out this trailer and look for the full length DVD sometime mid 2011.

This video is from one of my favorite spots in the World, Hatteras Island!!! Usually I'm not a huge fan of the Go Pro shots but this seems more real then most of the ones I've seen. Some of the Bank's best seeking shelter. Check it HERE.

UPS and FEDEX showed up today with a SECTOR NINE LONGBOARD and GLOVE AND BOOTIE HANGER Restock. You know these items fit on anyones list. We're here till 7pm and we'll help you get exactly what you need!

Hold My Beer!!!

Dragan's Catch of the Week

Every once in a while you stumble across pure GOLD! Well my dear, dear friends today we all struck it rich! The short story you're about to read is absolute GOLD, whether it's true or not has no real relevance, it's still pure GOLD. I can't remember the last time I was this excited about writing a blog. This article is titled "Sharks Wary of Drunken Serbs" and you'll never guess where it goes from there. With out any further adieu here it is in it's entirerty with a couple of coment from yours truly!

Dragan Stevic (what a name!!!) of Serbia is the new Egyptian hero who killed a large shark which had previously terrorized numerous tourists (injured 4 and killed 1) at the famous Egyptian resort Sarm El Sheikh.

The Serbian hero was too drunk to remember what had happened (so awesome), though one of his friends who witnessed the incident explained it all for the Belgrade based media. Dragan Stevic was dubbed by the Egyptian media as "Shark El Sheikh" (one bad ass title) and thanked him for saving their tourist season.

Milovan Ubirapa, one of Stevic’s friend who witnessed the incident explained that Dragan had decided to go to the beach for a swim after a long night of drinking (usually a bad idea). As Dragan and his friends approached the beach, he saw a fairly high positioned jumping board utilized earlier in the day by divers (an even worse idea).

“Dragan climbed on the jumping board, told me to hold his beer (absolutely classic) and simply ran to jump. There was no time for me to react or to try to stop him, he just went for it” says Milovan. “Dragan jumped high and plunged down to the sea, but didn’t make as much splash as we thought he would”, explained Milovan.

The reason could be because Dragan Stevic ended up jumping straight on the shark (really???) which was lurking near the beach, probably looking for its next victim. Dragan had nailed it right in the head, killing it instantly (No $*#%&!@ WAY). The Egyptian police found the shark washed out on the beach that morning (pictured above).

Dragan was able to swim to the shore and told his friends he had twisted his ankle (I'm good guys, I'm just gonna walk it off), telling them the water was not that soft. The water is soft buddy, you just landed on a shark. At the moment, the fearless hero is in a hospital recovering from alcohol poisoning (Dragan is an all-star). After Dragan gets well, he will get a chance to have some more drinks as the resort had awarded the Serb tourist with a free vacation for his heroic deed. (Unreal......)

I'm not sure what Dragan looks like but I bet it's something like this. You know this dude kills sharks with a cannonballs and pencil dives weekly!

There is nothing else that I could write here that would top that story! However, you'll be stoked to know that the surf is building and we're going to have some great waves this week. Should be fun tomorrow first thing with chest plus sets and strong NW winds and fun all day! Then more waves Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. NH IS FOR SURFING!!!!

It's snowing and Steve and I are in the shop till seven. Steve is rocking out!!!! to some Christmas music right now. Come down and hang out, even if you don't need anything just seeing Steve dance and sing is worth it!

Full Lunar Eclipse tonight after midnight! Set your alarm and get up for it! Should be starting around 1:30am.

ASP YEAR IN REVIEW

Call it a WRAP!!! The 2010 ASP Tour is over. A lot has happened this year. Let's review.....

Can't wait for 2011 and for Snapper Rocks. Will Kelly be on tour, what new faces will we see join the elite ranks in 2011. Only time will tell but until then we have the JAY and the EDDIE to look forward too!

FINAL HIGHLIGHTS FROM PIPE

Today Steve kept the streak alive by getting in the water for the 18th day in a row! The waves certainly weren't epic by any means but any day you can snag some knee high peaks while enjoying the sea smoke is a good day! It looks like next week we're gonna get some SNOW and some WAVES!!! STOKED!!!!! It appears we are going to get ourselves a good old fashion Nor' Easter!!! I hope we get tons of snow and another week of swell, how sweet would a white Christmas with waves be?

Just found this on my buddy's blog. If you missed the past swell you'll be in good company with <TARDZINGER>
Have you ever missed a swell cause of work or whatever and just watched the web cam wishing you were there, surfing each wave in your imagination? Thats what I did today. In my mind it was all time. -SPK

We'll be at the shop till seven tonight and we'll be here all weekend! Swing by and hang out!

PIPE MASTERS FINALS TODAY!!!!

Yesterday was awesome for both us and for Pipe. Super fun wave here, super good waves at backdoor! The Dusty Payne vs Mick Fanning heat might have been the best heat of the whole year! With seconds on the clock Dusty posted a 9.87 which secured his place on the tour next year and advanced him to the next round! It was what you would call a nail biter. The ladies surfed the last heat of the day and in the end Steph won the heat, won the Triple Crown, and let Tyler Wright know she's ready for a battle. Check out the highlights below!

Day 8 Highlights!!!

Dusty v.s. Mick!!!

The Ladies!!!!

PIPE IS LIVE NOW!!! CLICK HERE FOR THE LIVE FEED!!!!!!!

Surprisingly the waves were still super fun this morning! I had a great little session with some fun chest high drops and the best parking spot on the seacoast! Sometimes you just get lucky!

Our good friend Marc just happens to be one of our favorite reps. He's always STOKED and he's always ready for waves or whatever is in front of him. One of his major lines is RipCurl and that is a brand we're beyond stoked to have in the shop, Marc does whatever it takes to keep us out fitted in Rip Curl rubber and we appreciate it. In fact Steve is so stoked on his 4/3 Ripcurl Insulator that he's still wearing it. Marc is the best, he doesn't live in NH but he surfs here enough that you might think he's a local. I hit Marc up with a few burning question, check out his answers!!!

NAME, AGE, YEARS SURFING : Marc (Angie) Angelillo, 55 started surfing at 10 yrs old in 1965 ( before shortboards & bodyboards had even been brought to market)

YOU'RE A PROUD NEW DAD, TELL US ABOUT YOUR BOY. “CJ” my little dude is almost a year now (1/6), the size of a large oven turkey roaster and I think he is goofy footed like his dad but I’m going to show him switch stance too.

ON A SCALE OF ONE TO TEN JUST HOW RAD ARE YOU? 5.5 one point for each 10 years I’ve been on this earth.

WHO SURFS BETTER, YOU IN YOUR PRIME OR STEPH GILMORE BLIND FOLDED? YES, I love watching Steph surf blind folded in a bikini!

THINGS YOU DO WHEN YOU'RE NOT IN THE WATER? Gut grass, yard work, unfortunately work ( no I love my lifestyle & job), travel and do things that I know can make a difference in the world.

IS IT TRUE YOU WEAR SPEEDOS UNDER YOUR WETSUIT? Who saw me? Who told you?

WOULD YOU CONSIDER YOUR SELF A LEADER OF TRENDS OR A TREND FOLLOWER? A leading old school trend setter

DID YOU OR DID YOU NOT MAKE 7 FIGURES SELLING BODY GLOVE IN THE 80S? something like that and I also gave a way a lot of BG decals too, helping spread the stoke and put them on absolutely everything!

HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE NAMED PIONEERS FAVORITE NEW ENGLAND REP? I’m humbled ( hey what took so long?)

HOW MANY BOARDS DO YOU HAVE IN YOUR GARAGE RIGHT NOW? It’s a sickness, I know I know, more than 50 I think between shortboards, longboards and SUP’s …

WE KNOW YOU WORE UGGS IN THE 80S, WHAT WAS YOR PREFERENCE SHORT OR TALL? I like my Uggs like my coffee light and sweet.

FROGSKINS OR RAZORBLADES? Were the frogskins first? My mind is going ( it’s the age)

HOW MANY NEON ZIPPERED BODY GLOVE BIKINIS DID YO SELL? I loved that bikini top, but more important … the number of them I saw the zipper fail on ? J

WILL KELLY BE BACK ON TOUR NEXT YEAR? I think he is going to pick his favorite events to mix the boys up throughout the 2011 season.

WHO DO YOU THINK WILL WIN THE ASP TITLE NEXT YEAR? Jordy, Parko, Taj, Mick or Dane its anyone’s game.

WINTER SUIT OF CHOICE? That's easy! Ripcurl F-Bomb 5/4. No doubt!

FAVORITE SHOP IN NEW ENGLAND, FAVORITE WAVE IN NEW ENGLAND AND THE BRANDS YOU LOVE AND REPRESENT? I’m just so stoked to be part of almost every surf shop in the Northeast, it’s like family to me. . I love any wave and session I can share with my friends and shop riders as I work up and down the coast. Rip Curl, Creatures of Leisure, Ocean Minded, Future Fins and KIALOA.

The Pipeline Masters in ON!!! Click HERE and go to Hawaii!!! It's 80 and sunny, the water is 79, Piper is 4 to 5 foot, and there are girls in bikinis on the beach! Round three is in the water now and so far Taj has taken out Wilko and Owen just took down Parko in a nail biter!!! With Parko out early that means the door is open for others to take a stab at the triple crown. The plan is to complete rounds 3 and 4 today and maybe even get into some of the quarterfinal heats! Can't wait to see what happens!

The surf was still so good today! Who got some? Steve is on day 16 in a row, that's a pretty damn good run. At 16 days straight that means he has surfed more than half way through December. I'm sure he'll get the next few days but can he make it every day till New Years??? I think he'll make it.

Rad little video I found on the Volcom Site...

I give you Andy's Swell

If you got the time and energy get yourself to the beach and get some waves!!!

Stevens Pass is the best, I hope I get to go back this year. I love this mountain and can't wait to get some pow turns! SNOWBOARDING

BOMBS!!!!!

COLD BOMBS p. LaVecchia GITV

It's huge out there. In the three years I've been working at the shop this is one of the biggest groundswells I can remember. Very few spots are working right now. If your coming up to try and surf some beach break you better think again. The current buoy reading is 15.7 feet @ 16 seconds. We often get fluke readings like that but the swell has consistently been in the 14 to 18 foot range for the past 12 hours. That's about as big and good as NH gets. If your gonna go out be safe, I've already witnessed multiple broken boards and leashes. Get the right one and you be smiling for days!

Couple shots from this morning stolen from our facebook friends, thanks team!

Rye this morning p. Jon Mackin

Getting Lucky p. Erica Nardone

The surf forecast for tomorrow looks really promising. Still in the head plus range with north west winds. It should be organized and super fun! The tide will be high at 6 am and low at noon. Should be a great day to be at the beach. SURFING!!!!

Pipe is off again today. Good chance of some contestable wave for tomorrow and Thursday. Not epic PIPE but good enough to crown a Triple Crown Champ. Here is The Call from yesterday with Parko!!! It's a safe bet but my money is on Parko for the Triple Crown victory.

The shop is rocking!!! Swing by and hang with us!

Ripcurl, "Best boots I've ever had"

Well the runs continues. Steve is on day 13. His description of the surf this morning was lumpy bumpy and awesome!!! A more accurate description would be overhead and messy! It's gonna stay that way for the day but tomorrow is another story. Winds are going to go south west tonight and stay that way all day tomorrow. It should be fun and still have some size! Plan on fun leftovers Wednesday and Thursday. SURFING!!!!

Captain Ralph in his new rubber post day number 141!

If you don't know Ralph then you must live under a rock. He's surfing everyday for a YEAR straight in honor of the Molly Rowlee Fund. Pioneers and Ripcurl partnered up to get Ralph in some thicker rubber for the winter months. We got him in a 5/4 Insulator with some F-Bomb booties and mitts. He just came in and said "the suit is AWESOME!!!! Best boots I've ever had!!!" That statement holds some real weight coming from someone who has been surfing longer than I've been alive (28 years). If you need some new winter rubber yourself THINK RIPCURL!!!!!!!!!!!Today was day number 141 of 365 and he's doing it with a nasty chest cold. Check Ralph's page HERE and the Catch a Wave for MOLLY page HERE.

Just in are these new shoes from DC. These shoes look more skateable than anything I've seen from DC in a while. The Tonik and the Landau are both super slim and built for nothing but skating. No flash, no frills just good skate shoes. We also got the Matt Miller Match in. Black and Orange and built to last. DC is making a comeback into skateboardings core and this is a good start!

The One Love crew, a rival of the famed Pioneers soccer team, posted a short video of our match last week. It was one of the best games of the session. It was 0-0 up until the half but we let it slip away in the second half. I left with a bloody nose and a chip on my shoulder but that has faded away now. Super fun, thanks for the match boys, we're looking forward to the rematch! This time elbows down boys!

If anyones interested in joining the squad get in touch with me because we've got some openings! Next session starts January 2nd.

If you got the time this interview with 2010 S.O.T.Y. Leo is worth the read. Check it HERE.

The Bay Calls the Day

Iceland.....

Day twelve of fun surf. Can't believe that little ground swell is still holding on. If we can get through tomorrow it looks like the run may go for another 5 or d days! Maybe it will continue and we'll make it through the whole month of December!!! That would be rad.

Winter swells are on the way for us and many locations around the World. Two of the years biggest events are the Maverick's event , now called The Jay, and the Quiksilver in memory of Eddie Aikau. These contests were the highlights of last winter. I remember watching both of them and just being so blown away by what I was seeing. I hope they both go off again. The Eddie's opening ceremony was just recently and both of the events have websites set up to relay all the news. You can also sign up to get a text when the call is made and the contest is a go. Check the Eddie HERE and the Jay HERE. We're signed up and we'll let you know when things get rolling. Until the Bay calls the Day check this out.

Ben Rayborn is a BEAST!!! Backside Bonless of the wall to fakie??? Seriously???

While most people dream of board shorts and warm water for their next surf trip Steve and I just want to go to Iceland. Check out THIS Blog I found from the photographer and writer Tim Nunn called Numb. Great piece on Drift about Iceland too. Someday....

It's Saturday, Steve and I are in the shop until 7pm. We've got lots of new Pioneers gear and a handful of new longboards from Sector 9. It's full on winter up north and we're hearing lots of positive things about the conditions. Head north and check it out, if you need anything for your adventure stop by and let us help!

SEA SMOKE!!!!

I'm feeling like a record on repeat here but count it, day 11 in the books. Woke up nice an early today, hoping to see the first sea smoke of the year. 9 degrees at 6:45 and it was on. Spent a few minutes strolling along the beach snapping photos of the smoke and then the boss man ran out and started snagging a few. I was expecting knee high at best but as you can see right spot, right tide and you can still find yourself a waist high wave. After seeing Steve on a few of these I ran home switched the dog out for my board and ran back to get some waist high ones too. Fun day but damn cold. Hoping for more tomorrow!

Sea smoke is the RADDEST!!!!!

We like Vans (shoes and vehicles), we like Antarctica. Driving a crazy expedition van across Antarctica is something I would cut off a toe for. The Moon Regan Transantarctic Expedition team have just completed the fastest ever vehicle crossing of the Antarctic continent. The 10-man team left Union Glacier on 25 November and arrived on the Ross Ice Shelf on 9 December. The total distance covered was 1,945.9 kms and the total time taken was 303 hours. The team will now retrace their tracks to the South Pole, and back to the west coast at Union Glacier. They hope to complete the return trip in around 9 days; they will then be the only vehicle-based Expedition ever to complete the there-and-back journey. So Jealous of this trip and this van! Check it out!

I'm willing to bet a Star Wars enthusiast designed this thing.

JUST IN & JUST IN TIME. NEW PIONEERS HOODIES & LONG SLEEVE TEES FOR BOTH MEN AND KIDS. We're really stoked on the new color ways. Slime Green!!! Loud and proud!

Count It!!

If you're keeping count then make another X because today is the tenth day of fun surf in a row! True it is small and it's damn cold but it's long range groundswell and if you find the right spot it's thigh plus and shredable. I saw Steve getting some fun ones this morning while I was walking the dog and just like clock work as he got out I was suiting up to get in. Next time it's tiny and you're debating on whether to paddle out or not remember somewhere there is a Pioneer in the water!

As our streak continues, the run at Pipe is over. Day one of competition was yesterday but unfortunately day two is an off day. Just not enough swell making it in to Pipe today. But with 10 more days in the waiting period there is sure to be ample opportunity for some good days to come. Yesterday the boys completed round on and two and Dusty Payne, John John, and Parko all through down some standout performances! If I was a betting man I'd be going all in on Parko to take the triple crown for a third year in a row! So happy to see him well and killing it! Match ups for heat 3 are looking good and as soon as the waves pick back up we'll be seeing it live on the triple crown site! Check the video below and see for yourself.

Now this little post is only for the lords of skate. Chances are if you've been skating your whole life than you have an immense amount of respect for the skateboarder's skater, Duane Peters. Old boy is in a tough spot and Real is looking to help the Buzzard out. Seems Duane had a severe leg break and he's having a tough time surviving the medical bills. Real has released an Action Realiezed deck to help Duane out. There are 50 red decks hand signed by Duane available HERE (December 17th) and we'll have a less limited edition green deck coming to the shop soon. If you can, support a skater who has been supporting the scene as long as the scenes been around.

The Mountain just got a proper dumping! Northern VT, NH, and Maine are in good shape. I got the word from up north that the POW was on! Check Sugarloaf's site form some good photos and videos!

Something else you may have noticed is that we have a new web address for the blog. It's now http://pioneers-board-shop.blogspot.com. Sorry if we messed up your bookmark but it's time we more accurately named our blog. So copy the new one into your favorites and check it daily!

Were in the shop till 7 and we're STOKED & STOCKED!!! Come hang out!

PIPELINE!!!!!!!!!!!

IT'S ON!!!!!! Pipe just kicked off in 6 to 8 foot surf. The boys are in the water and Backdoor is looking good! Adam Melling just took out Kamalei Alexander and we just got word that Andy Iron's son was just born! Bruce was there at the birth and now he's on a plane headed to Pipe to complete in his heat. It's a good day to be in front of the computer. Click HERE to get connected to the live feed! And just in time we just got some KILLER Volcom Pipeline Tees. These babies are hot, hot, hot! Get one while they last.

Speaking of waves it was pretty damn fun again this morning. Surfed with my buddy Britt on some really fun thigh to waist high waves. It really just won't stop!!! The tide is really high right now but I'm sure once it backs out there will be plenty of fun ones to be had. Dress warm because it's cold and windy out there! I'm still rocking the 4/3 but not for much longer. Judging by the past 9 days I'm gonna go out on a limb and say there be fun ones tomorrow too! Extended forecast looks good for next week, plan ahead!

We're here at the shop till 7 tonight. We're stocked with TONS of UGGS and lots of amazing christmas gifts. Get yourself down here and let's do some shopping!

Remember to Keep It LOCAL!!!!

Day number 7 of SURF in a row! I found some super fun ones last night and this morning, anyone else? I surfed a little rip last night was easily the heaviest waist high wave I've ever surfed, SO MUCH FUN!!! While I was out there this morning I felt like I could actually feel the water getting colder. The wind is howling and the temp is heading down, down down! It's almost time to hang up the 4/3 and slide into the O'neill PsychoFreak winter suit! There's no getting cold in that baby! Still some little waves out there now, although the wind is pretty stiff so it's dropping fast.

I found this great video this morning called Shop Local, Surf Global on Drift. It was a good reminder of why shopping locally is so important, especially when our economy is hurting. If you live locally or shop at Pioneers you're part of our community. By shopping here or at other local business you are supporting your neighbors and yourself. So watch the video and think about it this holiday season. Do what you can to keep it LOCAL, it so worth it in the end! Share this video with everyone you know, it's a good message to spread!

Check it out, PIPE MASTERS preview with Shea Lopez. This is the one that everyone wants to win!! Can't wait for this contest to go live, I hope it gets HUGE!!! Just picked my Fantasy team. Lots and lots of good wildcards to choose from. Here is my picks. I keep you glued in as we get closer. Check out all the hype as we get closer HERE.

I just ran around the shop and snapped a few photos of some of the things we have. We're so stoked and ready to help you with all your Holiday needs. Get in here and check all this awesome gear out. Product still arriving DAILY!!!
