EARL.

4 named storms in 11 days.... WOW!!!!!!!

EARL???? I know it's on your mind because that's all I've been hearing for the past two days. My answer has been who cares, there's still Danielle swell in the water. But as the Danielle swell slowly fades (I say slowly fades because I scored waist+ sets at the wall this morning all by myself in trunks) it's time to look towards the future and really see what Earl is going to do for us. So Earl is currently 300 miles south of NC's Outer Banks and heading north. Residents of the banks are under a full blown hurricane watch as category 4 Earl heads straight at them. According to the best guesses of the top US meteorologists Earl is going to clip the banks and head our way. Southern MA, including the islands, are under a hurricane watch also.

As far as the waves go there will be some. The timing, size and intensity of those waves is really the big question for us surfers and coastal folk. The farther out to sea Earl goes the better things look for us. There is a nice little ground swell in the water right now, 3 feet at 12 seconds. Now that could still be compliments of Danielle or it could be front runners from Earl. Either way there are waves, and there will be waves through the weekend. Saturday will most likely be the biggest day and I am going to strongly caution beginner surfers to exercise extreme caution. Know your limits and be smart. If you're new to the sport Saturday is not for you. Wait till Sunday, it will be worth it!
