Sneaker Ground Swells

Would you believe me if I told you I scored waist plus peelers all to myself this morning??? Well I did and it was awesome. Just myself and some beach combers. It's days like today the remind me how special NH is! If you checked the buoys this morning then you were probably as surprised as I was to see 3 ft at 14 seconds and if you didn't then you're probably kicking yourself now. Well don't be too hard on yourself because there are going to be waves the rest of the week and this weekend looks really good right now! As soon as I rolled up to the shop this morning Stevie split to go score another session! So.... if you got the time go for a shred!!!

The O'neill World Cup of Surfing has hit a serious lull. We're coming up on our 6th layday in a row. The forecast for the rest of the waiting period isn't looking to promising either. I think the contest will be able to run toward the end of this week but I'm not expecting much. I think at this point all eyes have begun to look at the crown jewel of the triple crown, PIPE. Hopefully the ocean is saving up a serious swell for the final stop of this year's ASP Tour. Even though there isn't a lot of surfing going on there is still a ton of stuff to watch on the Vans Triple Crown website like Alana Blanchard snorkeling or an interview with Jordy. Click HERE and check it out!

Grain Surfboards makes board flavored beer on TV. Short article from Surfers Village. Check it HERE.

Final stop of the Concrete Carnage tour happened at Rye last weekend. There sure wasn't alot of concrete involved but when the skating is this good you forget about the details. Video from EB and check the Back 5 of the hip at the end of the video. Eamon is a beast at 12 years old. Imagine him in 5 years!!!!!

UGGs!!!!!!! We can't keep them in stock but with a huge shipment just in today we'll have what you want for the next couple of days! Lots of Classics in tall and short in all the best colors. Also a couple new additions to the line like the Sundance Original and the Lonnie. Get them now or you'll be struggling to find this right before Christmas...

Also worth noting is you can purchase Pioneers Gift Cards on the web directly from our website. Click HERE to check it out!

Gonna head over to the park tonight and get a skate session in. Schedule in to your routine and we'll see you there. Until then blow off your responsibilities and GO SURFING.

NEW LOST AND PLACEBO SURFBOARDS

Just got 15 boards in! Two of which are the brand new, can't even find info on, Lost Twin Fuselage Technology Sub-Scorchers. My first impression is "DAMN I WANT ONE". The boards are made with traditional poly materials, but the blanks being used have parallel stringers running through about 3/4 of their length. Also, to reinforce areas that do not contain stringers (i.e. the nose and tail), carbon fiber strips are used which provide both strength and a lively, reactive feel. So far, feedback from the the …Lost team has been great, so now it’s time for you guys to give it a try.

Next up is the Placebo Surfbaords. These boards all feature Flexlite 2 technology and we are stocked with Rockets, Scorchers, and Uber Fishes. Now you may not see a Lost logo on these boards but you will see the Mayhem logo which signifies Matt Biolis' stamp of approval. These boards are all Lost shapes but are full epoxy but they ain't your typical epoxy... That's right Flexlite 2 is the progression of epoxy boards. The bottom of the board and the rails are traditional epoxy while the deck is a combo of epoxy and fiberglass matting. What that means is that the deck of the board has give just like a traditional poly. It has some give and some flex, it will also alow you to creat some impressions where you feet go allowing that natural locked in feel of a poly. In a nut shell you have a super durable board but with the flex and feel of a poly. Steve ordered himself a 5'7 Rocket and he'll be sure to post some feedback as soon as he gets it in the water.

BLACK FRIDAY WEEKEND WINTER WETSUIT DEAL
You know it's coming.... here's a chance to score a sick deal on some winter rubber.
O'Neill 6/5/4mm Heat with 7mm Booties and 5mm Mitts. All for only $419......
We're fully stocked so come on down a score!!!!

Steve and I are also hooking it up with select kids snowboards right now. We have 5 brand new boards with bindings ranging is size from 108 to 128cm. These are the deal! Swing by to check them out! Were also giving away select snowboard videos for free with any snowboard purchase over $150 dollars. SCORE!!!!

It ain't much of a photo but it's proof. Finding surf at 6200 feet isn't as hard as you would think.

Been there, done that. Living in Tahoe it was only natural that this would happen. My good buddy Jacques and I have surfed Lake Tahoe, mid blizzard right at dusk, in sub zero temps at 6200ft. When you live 4 hours form the coast sometimes you just have to take matter into your own hands. This article I found on Drift reminded me of my time there. Check it out HERE.

This short video may seem unrelated but I found a lot of parallels between painting billboards and shaping surfboards. There is something undeniable about a hand shaped board and after seeing this video I believe the same is true for hand painted billboards. Have a look, I hope you enjoy this as much as I did. Thanks TARDZINGER.

One Hour Parking

This brand new video, out just in time for the holidays, comes to you from NH's own Michael Sanders. This video features many of NH's best surfers on some of NH's best waves. All the shots in this film are from the past year. This is a great way to remember all those epic days or to share them with people who say NH doesn't have any surf. The video is called One Hour Parking and it comes free with the purchase of a One Hour Parking sticker. The video is available at PIONEERS right now! Get your copy ASAP!!!

So who watched the Reef Hawaii Pro Final yesterday? Parko LIT IT UP! He's on fire and I can tell he wants another triple crown in the worst way! After seeing Parko surf this past week both Steve and I agreed that Slater might have had a little more competition this year had Parko been on the tour. Another surfer who lit it up yesterday was Sunny Garcia. After his interference fiasco with Curren in heat one Sunny has been out for blood. When the dust finally settled yesterday Sunny had made it happen. He won the clash of the legends and walked away with the 10 grand! Occy came in 2nd, Curren 3rd, and Carroll 4th. The clash of the legends was almost as good as the Pro itself. I hope that this becomes a regular event at all the ASP stops.

Next up is SUNSET BEACH. For some it’s a romance. For others it’s a tragedy. And for the men on the ASP World Qualifying Series (QS), The O‘Neill World Cup of Surfing is the climax to a long, grueling season. The first rounds of competition are chocked full of drama with many QS competitors having their World Tour dreams materialized or destroyed in front of a huge audience. Look for QS competitors to put it all on the line at the O’Neill World Cup of Surfing in hopes of qualifying for next year’s elite World Tour.

Last year Joel Parkinson won here and tied Michael Ho’s hat trick of World Cup titles by winning the second jewel of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing last year. Both surfers have won three World Cup championships individually. Parko had to work hard for his third Sunset victory, surfing against Six-Time Vans Triple Crown Champ Sunny Garcia, Two-Time ASP World Champ Mick Fanning and super grom Dusty Payne. Although Garcia held the lead for the majority of the final, Parkinson captured the win with a big, barrel on the West Bowl. Parko’s smooth style of surfing is prominently displayed on the open faces of Sunset’s waves and his result demonstrates the judge’s appreciation of Parkinson’s surfing at Sunset. The big question is can he do it again this year? The Sunset Pro starts on the 24th and I'll keep you posted to the happenings as things get underway.
As we get closer to winter and COLD water one of the things you HAVE to think about is your hands. Here at Pioneers we have the ABSOLUTE BEST winter glove you can get. We call it the O'neill Psycho 5mm mitt. It's light weight, flexible, and really warm. Lobster claws are leave you pointer finger cold and 7mm mitts just add extra weight that is the last thing you need come winter time. We ordered an extra large custom order of these mitts for the year and we are the ONLY place you can get a pair. I promise you won't be disappointed. Both Steve and I swear by this 5 mm mitten and after you wear a pair I'm pretty sure you will too.

SNOW SEASON IS HERE! Just got word from a couple of friends that it's dumping in Utah and they're scoring early season POW. Loon opens tomorrow and Waterville opens Friday. Pretty much every other ski area opens the following week. The tuning machine is ready and our selection of snow gear is on point. Spread the word, PIONEERS FOR SNOWBOARDING!!!

WIll White Lightning Strike Hawaii???

Would you believe it, Mick Fanning, two time World Champ has never had a win in Hawaii. I didn't, but turns out that's the case. Mick has been on tour eight years now and has yet to post a win. He's made it to the finals at Haliwea, Sunset, and Pipe but has hasn't been able to seal the deal. Mick said after realizing he wasn't going to win the title this year he was putting all his focus on winning the triple crown! Mick came out with his guns blazing and posted the highest heat total in the round of 64. So what do you think, will this be the year White Lightning strikes in Hawaii???

Day seven highlights up and worthy of a look. The elite competitors finally got in the water yesterday and most of them advanced to the round of 32. The call will be coming through at around 12:45 today. Click HERE to get the latest and to view the Morning Show which also starts at 12:45. Today kicks off with an on air interview with the one and only Sunny G.

I found this short video today on ESPN Surfing. I really like it. Kelly is a standup guy and an amazing competitor. Can't wait to see what he does next. He says he feels like he could still be winning heats 10 years from now. I don't doubt it at all.

New Focus Mag just hit the shop today. This mag is East Coast Skateboarding at it's finest. This issue come to you with our boy Manny Santiago's seal of approval because he got to hop in the driver's seat and guest edit this issue. Great interview with Brian Delatorre and some awesome photos, as always. Swing by the shop to grab your free copy whenever you get a chance.

SNOWBOARD HELMETS!!! Just got a huge shipment from RED. The helmets this year are lighter, more comfortable, and cooler than EVER. No excuses anymore. Get a brain bucket and keep your thinker safe! Both the men's and women's version of the Hi Fi come standard with the air band feature. It's all about fit and all you gotta do is pump it up to make it fit better. It's crazy that it took this long for helmets to get this rad. Helmets for every head, kids, dudes, chicks, we got you covered!

PARKO IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Wrights come from good stock. Welcome to the tour Tyler!

Now that the Women's Cholo Pro is finished we've found out a few things. First off Steph is amazing, her surfing is on par with many of the top 44 men. I am pretty sure that she could out surf half of the men on tour right now. Her win at the Cholo Pro has put her one step closer to another triple crown title and some extra $$. The Cholo was the last Women's WQS of the year and six new ladies have qualified for next year's ASP Dream Tour. First up is Tyler Wright, little sister of Owen Wright, and from where I'm sitting Tyler will be Steph's biggest competition next year. Tyler is a mini Steph, powerful and stylish. I would even go out on a limb and say that Tyler Wright will be runner up to the World Title in 2011. Alana Blanchard, surfing prettiest face, is back on for 2011 along with Laura Enever, Courtney Conlongue, Jacqueline Silva, and Pauline Ado. Next years women's tour will be the best yet. I can't wait to put Tyler on my Fantasy team.

PARKO IS BACK!!!! His first wave after a long break due to a serious fin slice was a 10!!! Parko is FROTHING FOR IT!!!!

Live coverage from the Reef Hawaii Pro is on! Check it HERE. Tons of photos and video highlights from yesterday too. Waves look serious! They should get through a lot of heats today! Round of 64 started at 12:45 and I bet we make it into if not through the round of 32! SURFING!!!!

ART FOR AUCTION!!!!
ALL PROCEEDS GO TO THE MOLLY FUND
Our good friend Hanna Vokey is an amazing artist and she decided that she wanted to do something for the Molly Fund. She painted this picture with Surfers in mind and has it hung at Bella Rose, the pizza spot next to the shop. The bidding starts at $50 and we will end the auction December 20th. All you got to do is swing by the shop or hit us with an email and give us your contact info and your bid amount. It's great piece of art for a great cause. It would make an excellent x-mas gift so don't be shy, SHOW SOME LOVE!!!! Check out Hanna's website BoardRiderArt.com to check out more of her work.

P.S. Hanna surfs a Lost Motivator and LOVES IT!

Who Wants to go to Mars???

Well crew the morning started off a bit rough with hard onshore winds and rain. Six hours later and the sun is coming out and the wind is turning. (edit... it's absolutely pouring right now but the sun's gonna come back out) The tide is backing out and the surf is starting to look pretty damn fun, AGAIN for the 12th day in a row. Wouldn't it be epic if this was how good the surf was all the time. Imagine if you didn't have to check the report or the cams before you went to the beach... It would be such a relaxing existence if you didn't have to worry about your next surf. Alas I believe this is one day dream that will never come true. Like all good things this swell must come to an end. I believe that end may be tomorrow but I still got a little hope that there will be some logging waves hanging around in the AM tomorrow.

Where one door closes another opens. Have you seen the new vert ramp at rye yet??? It's ENORMOUS!!!!! It's triple over head and the roll-ins are, you guessed it, quadruple over head!!! I can't wait to see our skate team tame that beast, ZAC ROSE, MAX JENSON, NORA VASCONCELLOS and NOLAN MONROE are going to be spinning the biggest 540s NH has ever seen!!! I am thinking I would like to skate it but 14 feet is a little above my pay grade. Then again it's right there and it would be a shame not to try right? Check out these photos I grabbed off the web of the new ramp! HUGE!!!

Highlights from Day Five at the Reef Pro in Hawaii. Clash of the Legends was legendary. Occy took the win in heat two. The ladies took to the water and the World Champ Steph didn't miss a beat. She is looking to match her ASP victory with a triple crown victory for the third year in a row. Also stoked that my other two favorites Coco and Alana moved on to the next round. The ladies' quarter finals start in 15 minutes and the men's round of 96 resumes when the ladies settle it!

Who wants to go to Mars??? Loved the fact that this dude is reppin' PIONEERS!!!!!

DC stopped by with a pair of their latest skate shoe and it’s certainly a good one. The Landau shoe was introduced this earlier fall and it’s proudly endorsed by DC’s longtime rider Josh Kalis. The shoe features the brand’s trademarked Super Suede which has been tested to last up to 50% longer than normal suede. This not only helps your pocket book, but the high performance material also provides for softer feel and allows for a quick break-in period. Nobody likes new, stiff shoes to skate in, right?

While vulcanized skate shoes have become very popular over recent years, their flexibility has forfeited the support and heel protection of a cup sole. Thus, lots of heel bruises and unhappy feet for those that like to skate the big stuff. With these skaters and of course many others in mind, DC has significantly lowered the stack height of their cup sole and has introduced its slimmer and more flexible Performance Cup Sole which puts skaters lower to their griptape.

Other great features of the Landau include: Triple stitched toe and ollie areas, hidden lace loops to protect laces from premature wear due to ollies and kickflips, and an EVA footbed that yields stability and support for skateboarders who are on their feet all day.

DC’s Landau skate shoe is produced in Black, Dark Copper, Green, and Wild Dove (Grey) and they are available at most skate shops this holiday season. So have a look and give this shoe a shot. Through and through, it’s a well-designed shoe for skateboarding and the Landau will definitely provide you with more bang for your buck. Just holding this shoe in my hands told me that it was a really good one. I ordered a pair for myself on the spot! Dark copper in 11 1/2. Can't wait to get these new ones on my feet and over to the park. As soon as we get them in you'll be the first to know.

DC Skateboarding is Forever.

Still Surfing

Wardo at Haleiwa Yesterday

Yo Pioneers!!! Surprisingly the surf is still really really fun!!! The buoys are still reading 4+ feet at 11 seconds. If you're surfing an exposed beach break that means there are some head high sets still making their way in. Today is day 11 of good surf! Hopefully it will continue into tomorrow! My session this morning was a blast. Surfed with a couple of the boys at a little right that takes just the right amount of everything to be fun, and fun it was.

The Reef Pro is back on and the level of surfing from DAY ONE was AMAZING. The Clash of the Legends heat between Occy, Curren, Sunny Garcia, and Tom Carrol was ALL TIME! The video is below, make sure you watch it! (the song choice is terrible turn your own music on for that video) I've also posted the daily highlights too. Click HERE to get yourself to the live webcast. The legends will be surfing again today so make sure to tune in for that heat.

Just grabbed this first hand video of the Chief from Fuel TV. Jamie has been and still is a dominant force in skateboarding. He rips when on board and knows a thing or two about running a skateboard company. Jamie Thomas.... THE CHEIF!!!!!

Just found this great article by Laura Austin the really encompasses just how stoked about snowboarding... People’s early season enthusiasm will never fail to amaze me. To wake up hungover from the night before, drive 2 hours to get to the mountain, pay $50 for a lift ticket, which allows you to ride a few trails of man made snow, for just a couple runs, and wait in a 30 minute lift line every time might seem absurd to your average Joe. But it seems like people will go through hell and back just to get their first turns of the season in, especially on the east coast. Killington Resort’s opening day was Novemeber 2nd, so last weekend a few friends and I drove from Burlington, VT to Killington not knowing what to expect. From the bottom of the mountain things looked questionable, but as you took the gondola up you could see the section of the mountain with 6 rideable trails. Sure you were waiting in line for the lift three times as long as you actually got to spend riding. But people didn’t seem to mind, they had a live DJ, and a grill going with food for sale to make that wait not so bad. Plus it is the beginning of November, the conditions were surprisingly good, and you are already on your snowboard. Hard to complain. Check all the photos from day one HERE.

NIXON AND HANG-AIRS

If you're keeping track then you know today is day 10 of the never ending Nor' Easter. SURF SURF SURF!!! We're getting spoiled and it feels so good. Yesterday in the lineup I heard someone say "it's like I went on a surf trip but never left home". I think that pretty much sums it up. Head plus for over a week, just like a surf trip. While it's not head high today it's pretty damn fun and should be the same tomorrow. Get some while you can because who knows how long the next flat spell will last!

Yesterday Kauai and the surf community bid their final farewell to one of surfing's greatest, Andy Irons. Friends, family, and fans all paddled out to celebrate the life and legacy of AI. I really enjoyed this article and the accompanying photos I found HERE on SURFER. Andy's brother Bruce lead the paddle out and scattered AI's ashes over the waters where they learned to surf. Check out the video below, wish I could have been there.

Most of the ASP top 44 payed their tributes to AI yesterday at the paddle out and today the boys are hitting the water as the first stop of the Triple Crown kicks off. Round one of the Reef Hawaiian Pro is about to hit the water RIGHT NOW!!! Check it HERE. The surf is PUMPING and looking good. Lots happening today in Hawaii even the first round of the ICONS heat. Lurk long and hard because there is lots going on!

New VANRIDES video from THE VAN... CHECK IT!!! Maine is the place to be!

New Product in today from NIXON along with some bootie hangers and Hang-Airs.

These are two of the best winter surfing items we have here in the shop. NOTHING is worse than climbing into a moist ice cold wetsuit and both of these will help keep that from happening. The hang air is an extra wide hanger with a two speed fan built it. It circulates air through your suit and can have it bone dry in a few hours. The bootie hanger is a no brainer. Get two, one for your boots and one for your glove. Hang then somewhere dry and warm and you'll be stoked for sure! Check out the Hang-Air HERE and remember these make great gifts for the surfer that has everything!

Should be some surf tomorrow, plan on getting a few!

PIONEERS FOR SURFING!!!

p. GITV

Another day of surf!!! The stoke is high and Steve and I both got some really fun ones this morning. I got some nuggets and Steve got some bombs!!! Been riding my new Lost Stealth Pro lately and loving it. So smooth in the textured/bumpy surf. Tomorrow looks like another good day to be a surfer in NH. Head plus surf with light north northeast winds. Sounds like fun! It honestly looks like we're going to have waves because of this system until the middle of next week! CRAZY! This weekend looks to be pretty epic as far as the weather goes too. Mid 50s and sunny, make sure to go surf or skate because there are not going to be too many days like these left.

Just read THIS on Surfer. Dane's last dance??? Say it ain't so!!! & There calling Jersey Cold... it's not cold but the pits look sick. CLICK IT.

Another epic thing you could do this weekend is head to the ANDOVER SKATEBOARD PARK for their closing weekend session. I've only skated the new bowl once but I've been dreaming about getting back there ever since. I've got the inside scoop that there is potential to open it for some upcoming weekends when the weather cooperates but if you want it to be a sure thing then get there this weekend.

4'10 in quadruple over head?!?!?!? Only Bruce....

FUN!!!!!!!!

p. GITV

SURFING IS SO MUCH FUN!!!! Had a great session this morning and managed to paddle into a handful of fun ones!!! Looking at the forecast I was expecting less than ideal conditions but I got to tell you it was damn good out there this morning. My 4/3 was wet and cold so I threw the winter suit on this morning and I have to admit I forgot how much it sucks to deal with all that rubber. However, that's the reality, there is now getting around it so I just gotta get ready to suck up and pull it all on. I just came across this trailer for the new Chippa Wilson video and it's awesome. This video just makes me want to go surf some more! He even busts a backside 3 on a skateboard barefoot! Skills for days, check it!

We've got some new fins on the way and if you've got a board you love but you're just running stock fins it's time for an upgrade. The right fins can turn a good board into a great board. Think of it this way if you had a race car would you put shitty tires on it? No, of course not. Well think of your board as a race car, now ask yourself "do I have basic fins on it?" If you answered yes come see us and we'll talk. And if you need a little more prodding on the subject remember Kelly Slater has won 10 World Titles on FCS fins... and he's not running shitty fins, need I say more?

Lots of big wave news lately. First off check out THIS video from Mavericks which just popped up on the internet yesterday. It's the first big swell of the winter and there is sure to be more on the way. The official wait period for the beloved big wave contest, now know as THE JAY, wait period kicks off at the end of this month and will stay on hold into Feburary. The list of invitees has been released and is made up of some of the best big wave surfers in the world along with some locals from the area. Even 10 time World Champ is on the list. Check out the official "THE JAY" WEBSITE HERE.

Triple Crown Time!

Steve sent me over this link which really crunches all the numbers from the Ripcurl Search event. It's cool to look at all that has happened this year as we head to Hawaii for the Triple Crown of Surfing and the highly anticipated Pipe Masters. Lot's of number, who won the most heats, average heat totals throughout the year, average finishes, great stuff for picking your fantasy team. Take a minute and browse your way through this info, it's a very good indication of who the tour leaders are going to be next year!

Now back to the Triple Crown. This is the most prestigious title in the surfing world next to the World Title that is. To some people (mostly Hawaiians) the Triple Crown is the only thing that matters. It all kicks of this Friday and won't officially be over till December 20th. These four champions will compete three times during the course of the Reef Hawaiian Pro, with a best-of-three champion to be crowned on the final day. This special event is dedicated to three-time world champion Andy Irons.

SLATER MAKES HISTORY

HATS OFF TO THE TEN TIME WORLD CHAMP, KELLY SLATER!!!

It has happened, Kelly Slater won his 10th World Title and the Rip Curl Pro Search Puerto Rico in emphatic fashion Saturday in front of thousands of surf fans. His 10th Title spanning nearly 20 years is virtually unrivaled in any other sport. Kelly is a BEAST!!!

"I don't know how it all came together," said a watery-eyed Slater. "Just before Brazil, a friend asked me about going for 10, and I said, 'Yeah, I'll go for it,' then the points started coming my way. I knew something special was coming." He clinched the title in the quarterfinals by defeating Brazil's Adriano de Souza 18.87-14.36.

He then knocked off Taj Burrow 16.34-14.87 in Semi Final No.1, and finally, Bede Durbidge 18.77-14.43. Kelly scored a perfect 10 in that final with two huge whips, capped by a complete rotation, no-grab aerial. He became the oldest world surfing champion -- and also was the youngest (20). It was his 45th ASP contest title.

For a lot of people, myself included, Kelly's win leaves us asking what's next? Retire, design wave pools, keep surfing, start driving rally cars? Who knows. But this is what I have decided I would like to see... I want Kelly to grow a beard and a gut, I want him to keep surfing the tour but only events that he feels like surfing in. Just show up and surf when he feels like it. When he's surfing I want him to surf like Dane, like he could care less about getting point and more about doing the craziest turns and biggest airs. I want to see him surf crazy boards that he has been shaping in his basement. Basically I want Slater to just stop caring about winning and only care about pushing the sport. Slater could you make that all happen please?

For all the skaters out there who could really care less about Kelly and his 1oth World Title then get your clicking finger ready because Emerica has just released a website dedicated to the skate career of Heath Kirchart. Like Slater, Heath is a beast in his own way. Click HERE to see it all!

Steve slotted at the Wall this weekend

The surf this weekend was pretty damn good. I have almost forgotten that it was flat for the prior 3 weeks. Well the outlook for the upcoming week definitely has some waves in it along with lots of north winds. The rest of the week looks insane if you can find a spot that will deal with the winds. There should be surf for the next week at least! Flat one week head high the next!!! I'm sure everyone who surfed this weekend will agree the water is COLD!!! All of our winter rubber is here and we got what you need! 7mm boots, 5 mm mittens and an assortment of 5 and 6 millimeter suits! Swing by and have a look of give us a call with questions!
