NORA!!!!!!!!!

Today is Nora's day, she is hunting down her first X Games medal!!! Pioneers is so proud to have Nora representing us in LA right now and we couldn't be happier with our newest team rider, friend, and employee. Over the past few months we've seen her talent skyrocket and we know she is going to OWN IT TONIGHT! Live coverage of the Women's Vert Final starts at 5:15 pm tonight and you can watch it HERE on ESPN3. Hit her up on facebook HERE and show some support, let her know the Seacoast community has her back! Nolan Monroe, one of our other team skaters is an alternate in the men's park contest. Only time will tell if he will be called up to compete but if it happens Nolan will be ready! The schedule, the action, and all the highlights can be found HERE on ESPN's website.

Looks like we got a nice weekend in front of us. Sunny and about 80 for the next three days in a row. Waves... not so much. Ankle to shin all weekend long with the possibility of an occasional knee high set here and there. A few of the surf forecasting sights are showing a possible bump for Monday morning and you can bet we'll be keeping an eye on that. Still no major activity in the tropics to speak of. The two systems that did develop zigged when they should have zagged and left us with nothing. A repeat of Bill would be nice but better than that would be multiple repeats of Bill. All we can do now is enjoy our knee high windsell and think of things to come... remember it ain't often it gets that good here but when it does there is no place you'd rather be...

The VAN helps you remember there is no place like home...

What a great weekend to go skate, watch this, get hyped, get rad!!!

The Boston Skatepark Hoax...

Hank has finally investigated something worth while. The Boston Skatepark, you know the one that was supposed to be completed in 2006, then 2008, later guaranteed for 2009, and now that 2010 is here were still where we were in 2000. Watch the quick little video HERE and be amazed by the amount of B.S. that these nice folks from the CRC are feeding us. Over 2.5 million raised and nothing has happened yet, they haven't been given the rights to the land or even tested the soil they believe to be toxic. Lots and lots of red tape and a mountainous political landscape to navigate here. The joke is the Boston Mob has some bodies buried under that bridge and they don't want no one digging under that bridge...

Steve had a good point, let's take all that money, let's find a new spot, and get this damn park built! If they haven't got it together in 10 years how much longer is it going to take. You watch this video and you can tell these people really have no idea what to say about anything. The lady from the CRC says skaters need to understand "things don't happen overnight" but 10 years? Seriously? I think it's time for some answers, some action, and a skatepark. I think Hank has done a good job here and I hope this little spotlight on the Boston Skatepark will light a fire under the right feet. So spread the word, share this video, and keep an eye on the situation.

Just found this update from the Charles River Skatepark website HERE.

World Premier August 17th, in the shop shortly after. Get Amped!!!

Little tiny waves right now, gonna be a good one for family night! Don't forget Mike V. and Duane "the master of disaster" Peters at Rye tonight. Go watch or skate. DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Plastiki

FYI it's flat...

So let's get into the Plastiki!!! A sailboat designed to be a floating showroom of non-emitting futurist ideas that are simple, elegant and wholly attainable. The boat's buoyancy comes from some 12,000 plastic bottles and it's frame, sails, cabin, and rigging are made up of recycled and reclaimed materials. All the power on the boat comes from the Sun and from human strength. The Plastiki website is a wealth of knowledge, photos, and videos from the boat's concept to it's maiden voyage. The Plastiki sailed from San Francisco, California to Sydney Australia straight through the North Pacific Garbage Patch. An amazing journey with a great purpose. Reduce, reuse, recycle, rethink! If you got some time spend some time on this site. Explore the boat, meet the crew, track their journey, read their blog, understand their mission, learn something new. PLASTIKI!!

This video is something to ponder... how life began, how life could end. The amount of time invested in this project must be monumental. Watch it, enjoy it, think about it...

Local DIY park in wormtown, my hometown. All you need is a little crete and some friends.

Cardiff Kook gets owned!!! Meet the guerrilla artists HERE.

If there are no waves here you might as well watch these highlights from SA and get stoked for the future when there are waves!!!!!!!!! Stay up the event HERE.

3D Skateboarding!!!

Well folks, the cold hard truth is coming out today... we're staring down the barrel of an extended flat spell. The 7 day forecast doesn't have much hope and with a high sitting right over us it could be a little bit before we see some waves again. I got on it early again today just to get a few more while I could. Not a whole lot out there but I managed to get into a couple. The stiff west wind has blown all the nice warm water out to sea and I'm guessing the temps are somewhere around 65 degrees now. Trunks probably weren't the best call this morning... Someone said the 3rd week of August should be firing though so look forward to that. The plus side to the flatness is sunny days and mild humidity.

Short and fat, generally not two things you look for together, but realize it or not that's exactly what's happening in the surf world. Boards are getting shorter and fatter. Folks like Dane Reynolds and Matt Biolis know what's up. They have been riding and shaping little stubbies for a while now. Dane has certainly been stepping out of the box with his board quiver on the ASP Dream tour and the fact that he's being successful is making it ok for everyone else to do. "When in doubt do what Dane does", drop 4 inches in length and add one in width. Matt Biolis has been on this program long enough to know what's up. With boards like the Round Nose Fish, Motivator, Blunt, Plank, Rocket, Stealth, etc. he pretty much has everything you need. I'm a believer and sometimes I feel like the above boards were specifically designed for NH. Check out TransWorld Surf for the full article and if it make sense swing by and check out some of the Lost boards I listed above. Build that quiver and make your boards work for you!!!

It's happening soon! Here is a little pre X hype!

Dudes, the future is closer than you think... watch skateboarding in 3D on your computer!!! Check it out HERE and if you don't have any 3D glasses Rune will walk you through the steps on how to make your own pair right before he destroys the pool!!!

DC SHOES Fresh in!!!!

Forget the surf for now and go skate. Maybe I'll be wrong and we'll have waves sooner than I think!

Day One

Picture perfect... p. GITV

Well gang this past weekend was a good one. The Pioneers crew was up and at it early!!! Our 7am beach sweep was one of our best ever. Tons of people made it down and we picked up alot of trash! Vans provided a bunch of gear and everyone left with something. After the beach was cleaned most of us jumped in and grabbed a few little peelers just to start the day off right! The shop was cranking all day, tons of folks in and out both on their way to surf and skate. As soon as the lights to the open sign were extinguished we were off to New Market to help our good friends Todo Bien celebrate the release of their new full length album. It was a great time and the music was great. I can't wait for the private show in September. We have a few copies of the new CD here at the shop so if you missed the show hurry over and ask for one, we'll hook it up.

Grom AM session. p. GITV

Yesterday was one of those days that just ruled! Little waves, tons of sunshine, and not a whole lot to do. I spent a bunch of time in the water and kickin it with the homies. It felt so good to just trunk it on the 10'0 and not really have a care in the world. My girl, Jess, has been riding one of my lost fishes and things are really starting to click for her. She managed to catch a handful of wave and her stoke was contagious!!! My biggest accomplishment of the day was managing to stay sunburn free, epic!

Captain Ralph reporting for duty on day one. p. GITV

I got while the getting was good this morning and scored really good longboard waves. Thanks to the 10'0 Stewart today was another fun day of waves. It was also an important day for one of Hampton's finest. For most people the first of the year is January 1st, but for Ralph, today is the first day of his year. Today was day number 1 of 365 days of consecutive surf. That's right, starting today Ralph will be surfing no matter what for the next year. His brand new black beauty in hand and a bunch of groms to send him off, Ralph got the first of many waves. His mission is to raise money for the Molly Rowlee Foundation and to remember all those that we have lost to cancer. Check CatchaWaveforMolly.com for all the info and follow Ralph's journey through Ralph'sPic.com.

Who's game?

I know I already blogged about the new Taylor Steel film Castles in the Sky but I just want to say WOW one more time... Iceland, I want to know you... Get your copy here!

Every once in a while the water gets so clear and so warm I have to just stop and admire it. Today was one of those days... This photo, like the ones above, were taken this morning by GITV and this is really how the water looks. No photoshop, no color added, the water really is this epic right now. If you didn't know any better you might just think this was somewhere tropical but it's not, it's home. Appreciate it!!!

This is SKATEBOARDING!!!!!!!

Gest Blogger

What's up fools!? Bryan scraped his fingertips on the ocean floor whilst catching a rad wave earlier today, and rendered unable to type, he relinquished his blog duties to myself, Jon Millstein: vacuum technician and skateboard fanatic. Here's what's been happening in the better boardsport recently.

GORO GETS RAD OVER GAPS
Alex Gorodourous may no longer be representing Foundation's am team, but he's still slaying spots that most of us would rather longboard past than step up to. Check Thrasher's weekly photo sequence feature for his frontside 180 degree blast over a sidewalk and onto some crusty asphalt.
Click it for the full sequence... NICE OLLIE!

LAKAI AND DVS FLOW FAUX VULC INTO THE SHOP
If you can't decide between the stiffness and additional protection of cupsole shoes and the boardfeeling, penny-saving advantages that vulcanized kicks offer, check out our new shoes from Lakai and DVS. Lakai's Lakaitning technology blends cupsole and vulc to create a sole that's flexy but solid - check it out in the new Beibel 2 LK, which we just received in a black/white/blue colorway.

DVS sent us the Getz 4, which features a similar style of hybrid sole. I couldn't find a picture of it, but if you really flex your brain muscles, you can probably imagine the shoe below in grey instead of black, and with blue lining.

MY MAN MAKES IT
Saw D-Rock Hudson's last name in a Creepshow skateboards ad of the latest Focus magazine, that's so awesome! We love Creepshow here at Pioneers, you should to. Get in bed with the Creepers HERE!!!

LONGBOARDS FOR THE LONG HAUL, ARBOR TREES AND BERTLEMANS WITH STEEZ
After you've mastered riding a skateboard, and exhausted every trick from laser heels to laybacks, you might feel ready to move on from the daily grind (literally) to something that's a little faster, and a little easier on the ankles. Longboards are cool!!!!! And we just got a bunch of them from Arbor, with some truly unique shapes that will add some bruise to your cruise.

SURF REPORT, SKATE RETORT
Longboard waves all week brah, but although the ocean's flat the concrete wave is going to be ripping. Try skateboarding if you haven't already!!!!!

Later skate-rats, S.A.D. and DON'T SLEEP!

Points to Ponder....
"If the ocean never went flat and the girls never said no, Skateboarding would have never been invented" the most unreal dude ever....

JORDY OWNS IT ALL AT J-BAY

Well Jordy really put it together this time and in the process made some history. This was his first tour win ever and it was at home in South Africa, he is now in first place in the ASP ranking and this is the first time a South African has has led the tour since the new scoring system was introduced. Jordy is no doubt a solid force on the tour and my only question is not if, but when will Jordy win his first World title? While Jordy is crushing it Dane Reynolds is definitely the raddest guy on the tour just because he care way less than anyone else. While most competitors pumped music, stretched, and watched the competition like hawks, Dane was down the beach a bit surfing an finless board. When it came time for his heat in round four Surfer Mag called it a "meltdown as spectacular as expected". With the light side shores Dane was determined to PUNT, and punt he did all the way to a combined points total of 2.5 which gave Taj the bump to the next round. At the very least Dane is always interesting to watch and you can tell he's having fun. Click HERE to get to the heats and waves on demand!

Peter PITTED in Paradise for the last time???

In an unexpected turn of event Tavarua becomes Hunington Beach over night... Paradise Lost for the return Tavi customer or Paradise Found for anyone who can afford a plane ticket to Fiji??? In the past many waves such as Cloudbreak could only be surfed if you had permission i.e. you paid $4000 to go to a private resort for a week. In a stunning change the Fijian goverment reversed that law and made all waves open to the public. A local charger by the name of Peter Stokes was fortunate enough to be in Tavi the week prior to this decision but was unfortunate to be there for the week after the ruling too. In Peter's words "it went from 8 people in the line up to 90". That 8 to 90 change happened overnight!!! For Peter this is definitely a paradise lost situation... The Fijian government reasoning for their decision was to make Fiji a more popular surf destination, however, it sounds like their loosing customers at the moment. Click HERE to read the write up from Surfer Mag and make sure you browse the comment section too.

Barrels like the one above get you souvenirs like this. Peter in his element...

180 South!!!! It's here and it's so good. The trailer speaks for itself. Watch it, then come grab the full length copy here at the shop, get inspired and go on that mission you've always dreamed of.

Pioneers Beach Sweep this Saturday. 7am 10th street at the Wall. Tons of handouts!!!
Little waves this week, keep the log handy!!!

SUNS OUT, GUNS OUT!!!

Straight up summer time!!! 90+ degrees, little logging waves, and people everywhere getting some!!! I love days like today, I'm looking forward to tonight when I can grab the log and go get a couple peelers. It's been looking like fun all day, small fun but fun none the less. Tomorrow looks to be a little more of the same plus a couple inches! All weeks actually looks like tomorrow, knee high and rideable. Add in temps in the 80s and lots of sun and this coming week looks like a winner! I'm stoked to get some!

Lots more action from J-Bay today. With only one heat left in round 4 we should be on to the quarters, semis, and possibly even finals tomorrow if the waves hold. The quarters should be insane with Adriano vs Jordy, Bede vs wildcard Sean Holmes, Taj vs Dane, and Damien vs the winner of the Adam Melling vs Dusty Payne heat. Today's competition saw a bunch of the favored fall like Slater, Owen Wright, Mick Fanning (much to Steve's dismay), and Andy Irons. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and call a Jordy vs Taj final. The winner of which should take over the points standings as number one. It's heating up!!! Enjoy some of the highlights from day two here!

July 24th save the date because there is a bunch of rad stuff happening. The must make event of the day is going to be the Pioneers Beach Sweep!!! 7 am, The Wall, 10th street. I'll bring trash bags, gloves, and a bunch of awesome stuff to pass out to everyone who comes out and helps! Vans metal water bottles, hats, stickers, and whatever else I can find, maybe even a pair of Oakley shades to the person that pick up the most trash.... If you waste your time reading this blog than we both know you care about the beach and the ocean, so get up early, pick up some trash, and we'll all grab some waves together!!! That night you got two epic options. Option one... Todo Bien CD release party at the Stone Church. (I've been waiting for this day for a while now). Option two... Castles in the Sky video premiere at the Grain Surfboard factory in York Maine. I'll be attending option one but option two is a close second.

No matter what you choose you'll have fun just make sure you do something.
Don't be a square!!! Get some!!!

J-BAY MAGIC!!!!!!!

It's on!!! J-Bay is a GO!!!! The surf is pumping and the boys are posting 10s!!! It's been so long since the last ASP event that I had to update myself on just what has happened so far this year! We've had first place finishes from Slater, Taj, and from tour rookie Jadson Andre. Currently Kelly sits in first, Jordy in second, and Taj in third. This is the fourth event of the year and is usually the point where the tour leaders begin to pull away or fall back into the pack. Once J-Bay is over the next event starts in August and the contest schedule goes 5 event back to back and things really heats up!!!

It's anyones guess who will stand on the podium here, but with Parko out do to a gnarly foot slice we know it won't be the defending champ. All the heavies are still in it but right now Owen Wright is owning it and Jay Thompson has the highest combined total. Due to the time difference the event usually go live around 2 am so if you wanna catch some of it plan on getting up "Buck" early. If that's not happening no worries, the coverage for this event is better than ever before. Not only do they have heats on demand, they have waves on demand. You can watch every wave ridden so far, even the ones that don't contribute to a surfers score. Check that HERE. Watch Jay Thompson's 10 in heat two! Here are the highlights from day one!!!!
SURFING!!!!!!!

Ralph and Buck sharing the stoke...

What do you think? Could you surf 365 days in a row? One year straight. Sounds easy enough right, but when it's ankle high and -10 in February are you paddling out? Or maybe when it's blowin 40+ onshore and just getting out is an accomplishment are you going to go? Well I can name one person who has... Ralph Fatello. He did it 10 years ago in memory of his father and to raise money for the America Diabetes Association. Well ten years later, ten years older, and ten years wiser Ralph is doing it again and this time in it's Waves for Molly. Day one is July 26th and Ralph will be paddling out at 9am and he wants you to paddle out with him. He'll be blogging about his experience and you'll be able to follow the highs and lows of one man's journey to surf every day for a whole years. Go get em' Captain Ralph!!!

Grenade Fade... no one has these but us!

New watches from Rip Curl and super limited Oakley Frogskins today. Check it!

Little longboard waves all weekend, make sure you get a few!!!!!

SCORCHER!!!!!!

Pictures are worth a thousand words!!!!!!!!!

They say all good things must come to an end, and I guess that's true for a good summer swell too. Five straight days on the 5'10 Lost Motivator was what I need to help me shake the longboard blues. Don't get me wrong, I love a good longboard session, but after a month of longboard sessions I was ready for something a little different. I surfed yesterday in the fog just to squeeze one more session in, just me and a big seal. I swear he was following me around out there and because it was so foggy out we had to get pretty close to see one another, which made for quite an eery session. Especially when you consider the recent spotting of a great white shark off the Gloucester coast. To be honest after about 15 minutes of swimming around with that seal and thinking of that 11 footer I was over it. I got a good one in and called it a session. You get to thinking of strange stuff when you can't see the beach, you're solo, and you're swimming with a 6 foot seal...

VBS.TV is probably the best way to waste time on the internet. You'll learn some interesting things and be thoroughly entertained... Found myself watching Doing It Baja yesterday which is an epic little run of short movies about a group of skaters traveling from San Diego to Cabo by Harley Davidson. Legit dudes like Arto Saari, Heath Kirchart, and Keegan Saunders take part in the mission. Skating, motorcycles, and traveling, doesn't get much better... Also watched Obama's War which is a look at what life in Afganstan is like for the American soldier. Both are definitely worth the watch!

Over the past two days we have received a ridiculous amount of product. Surfboards from LOST, Walden, and NSP. Lost sent us a couple of Motivators, Scorchers, and Sub Scorchers... and that Sub Scorcher has got Steve drooling, it looks so good. We also just got a bunch of Lost tees to go with the surfboard of your dreams! Tons of longboard skateboards from Sector 9 along with gloves, wheels, and trucks. Tons of tees, flannels, shorts, pants, shoes, and hats from Altamont, Vans, ES, and Volcom. Traction and leashes from Pro Lite. The shop is STOCKED!!!! We got what you need, come and check out all the freshness.

Scorcher and Sub Scorcher
Fresh Tees
More Fresh Tees
And a few more Fresh Tees
Flannels, fall is right around the corner...
ES Slant
Pro Lite Traction

And last but not least.... ONE BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE MATRIARCH OF THE PIONEERS FAMILY HEATHER O'HARA!!!!!! GET SOME GIRL!!!!!!!!

CELEBRATE!!!!!!!!!!

What a weekend for surf! I've got a smile from ear to ear and I've seen a bunch of folks sharing a similar stoke!!! My morning session this morning was really good. There were still some occasional chest high sets and the waves were so glassy. This morning may have been my best session of the swell!!! The buoys are still reading between 3 and 4 feet and they should hold around there most of the day. At the moment the beach is shrouded in some heavy fog which is keeping the waves pretty glassy. However, at some point the wind is going to come out of the south and put a slight bump on it but it should be fun all day. SURFING!!!!!!

Wounded Warriors Surf Event 2010!!! If you're not familiar with this even then let me just start off by saying it is one of the most rewarding surf related events you will ever participate in! The Wounded Warriors Project honors and empowers wounded soldiers who have returned home from war and our now faced with a disability because of their service . This event has nothing to do with politics or war, it has everything to do with Americans like you and I giving back to men and women who have given so much! The event is set to run Friday August 27th and volunteers are welcomed and encouraged! If you, or anyone you know, could help out at this amazing event then please contact our good buddy Mike at BMichael.Taylor@Gmail.com for more info or to give the thumbs up that you're down for the cause!!!

365 days ago we lost our Little Miss Molly. Her passing was devastating to both her family and the community, but we held strong and together we are getting through the pain. We have honored Molly every way we could and I'm sure wherever she is, she is smiling. To remember Molly's passing the Rowlees will be walking down to 10th street at the Wall to throw Molly a few shakas and share some hugs. The hugs are where you're needed. The Rowlees have requested that anyone and everyone come down to celebrate the life of Molly tonight. Come to the Wall, share some hugs, some tears, and some laughs. Help the Rowlees celebrate the life of an amazing little girl!

Check MOLLYROWLEE.COM for Buck's latest blog!!!

Just got a video from team rider Nolan jumping Bob Burnquist's Mega Ramp. The video is on our Face Book profile, check it out!!! Back 360 to hugh backside air!!!

Enjoy the day and CELEBRATE MOLLY!!!!!!!!!

The Rolling O has brought us WAVES!!!!

SURFING!!!!!!!! Dudes, we got WAVES!!!!!! Finally something bigger than knee high!!! I was amping this morning, up at 5 and in the water shortly after!!! Waist high sets maybe some a little bigger. After a month of minimal surf it's good to have the buzz back!!! I was just looking at current buoy data and we got some real waves coming. The Cape Cod buoy is reading 6.2 at 10 seconds and our buoy is at 3.2 at 8 seconds. That means that by the end of the day is should be twice as big as it is now!!! Hot Damn!!! Can you tell I'm stoked!!!

My buddy Jon was nice enough to hand over his 5'10 LOST Plank and give me the thumbs up to take it for the morning. Fist impression... wow this thing floats great, paddles easy, catches waves like nothing. After a two hour session I agree with everybody reactions thus far, the thing surf great. Anything Matt Biolis touches is gold!!! It's fast as hell, great at beating sections, and for 22 inches wide the thing can turn!!! It just maybe the ultimate board for doing floaters!!! Today was definitely the right day to try it out, the surf was kinda soft and the Plank handled it with ease. If you've been thinking about the Plank, it's time to pull the trigger. The Plank is legit believe the hype!!!

TOMORROW, TOMORROW, TOMORROW... The Oakley Rolling O Lab is going to be at Rye Airfield all day!!! So before, during, or after your session you've got the opportunity to roll through the lab and check out just why Oakley glasses are so epic. Our good buddies Mark and Buck will be posted up all day along with a handful of other Oakley heads! I'm sure they'll be handing out all sorts of goodies and stoke. So any time from open to close make it down to the Airfield for some Oakley LOVE!!!!!!

Lots of people have been through the door lately looking for Molly stickers. Yesterday Buck came in and delivered tons!!!! Come get them while supplies last!!

Our favorite set of twins with their brand new 6'0 NSP Fishes. These girls will be team rippers in the future!!!!

That's it, that's all!!! Go to the beach, get some waves, but WATCH OUT for thunderstorms!!!
