I love stealing content for my blog from other blogs. I robbed this from TARDZINGER and it is one of my most favorite stolen pieces yet. Completely random, completely useless, amazing in it's aesthetics, a great start for a forgotten memory or a day dream. vans and the places they were...

vans and the places they were

Vans and the places where they were documents surviving custom and conversion vans across the West and examines the dialogue which exists between a van’s design aesthetic and that of its surrounding environment. The project began in 1996 and currently consists of hundreds of images shot on 120 film.

Over the course of the project the vans themselves have become more and more of a rarity. The reasons are as simple as rust and changing tastes; and as complex as government “cash for clunkers” initiatives encouraging more fuel-efficient transportation. Notably, at the same time these vans have been disappearing from our roads – film photography as a visual medium has also begun it’s slow death. Consequently the goal of the project is to one day shoot the last remaining van on the final frame of photographic film in existence. Then the project will be finished.

The Rip Curl Pro at Bells is a GO!!!

Good morning folks. Just another rainy windy day here in NH. Super choppy head high sets out front today. The wind is blowing pretty hard out of the NE and it looks like it will stay that way all day long... Tomorrow will be more of the same however this time with light rain and light NE winds. Hopefully conditions will be a little friendlier tomorrow.

So the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach in OZ officially started yesterday. Steve and I are both super stoked! This has become one of our favorite contests of the year. Things got started right away yesterday with the ladies. The surf looked to be in the waist to chest range and all the usual suspects are looking pretty good. As the women head into round 3, I am stoked to say that my fantasy team is intact and looking strong. If you check the Rip Curl Pro page HERE you can see all the stats, what heats on demand, and just get your fill of daily news from OZ.

Adam Robertson "ROBBO" made it through the trial and is the Pro wild card. Last year Robbo lit it up and made it all the way to the finals where he was defeated by Parko. It was a pretty great story and I was definitely rooting for the underdog. I hope that Robbo has the same luck this year because I definitely have a spot for him in on the Fantasy Team. If you don't know what I am talking about step back in time to the Pioneers archives... HERE.

As far as the remainder of the contest goes the forecast isn't looking all to promising for Bells Beach or Winkipop, the two preferred surf locations. But the forecast for Johanna looks very good and I wouldn't be surprised if they move the contest there if the forecast doesn't change. Johanna is a classic beach break set up so make sure your Fantasy team has a couple of good beach break surfers in the mix.

The other big thing is the winner take all Occy vs Curren heat. This will probably happen right before the finals and it should be EPIC. Ripcurl just released the following video to hype the boys up, Check it!

Thrasher just recently posted interview with oz ripper Lewis Marnell. He's a solid dude, reps Volcom hard and skates for Almost. Take a look and enjoy the read HERE.

New Volcom Women's gear just showed up today. I will spend most of my afternoon unpacking it all. Pictures to come tomorrow.

Don't float away on us and we'll see you in the water sooner or later.

Rainy Day Entertainment

More rain, more waves, more onshore winds. March has been a BEAST!!! and April will be starting off the same way. Surf all week long but conditions are going to be difficult. You're going to have to pay attention to the winds and look for those protected little nooks. If surfing messy overhead waves isn't your cup of tea don't forget we have a world class skatepark right here in town. Go Skate!

I spent some time last week ordering some new videos for the shop. I got a buch of surf titles and a handful of skate titles. Some new ones, some classics. What Really Went Wrong from Lost, The Drifter, Sipping Jetstreams, Strange World, Hesh Law. Here are a couple of trailers for some of the newer ones.

More videos to fill your rainy day with... Enjoy
Kassia getting herself a little at Noosa.

Thrasher's Texas Death Match!!!

One of my new favorite bands, Monsters of Folk. Check them out...

Enjoy the day, check the site for Steve's surf forecast, New LOST BOARDS coming at the end of the week??? If you need anything we are here all day!!! Give us a call

Street League

Good morning gang! Not a whole lot happening out front this morning but it looks like there
should be a little swell for tomorrow morning. Nothing epic, but something. The wind is going to on it most of the weekend and I don't see much of a cleanup until the beginning of the week. But if you search around I bet you'll be able to find a spot and get a few fun ones.

Street League Skateboarding... is it the future of competitive of skateboarding? A multi stop street skating tour run by skaters for skaters... Chris Cole says “It’s what we have always wanted – it’s a contest circuit that is actually created, owned, and operated by skaters.” There is big money behind this beast and at the moment there are 3 dates scheduled for 2010. Skaters already signed on to the tour include Chris Cole, Ryan Sheckler, Greg Lutzka, Torey Pudwill, PJ Ladd, Sean Malto, Mike Mo Capaldi, Mikey Taylor, Billy Marks, Tommy Sandoval, and Paul Rodriguez. The terrain will be all cement and built by California Skateparks. Read the full press release HERE and stay tuned for more info.

Highlights from day 3 of the O'neill Cold Water Classic in Tasmania are up. Jordy is still ripping and I am still calling on him for the win. Check it!

Couple really really good shoes showed up from e'S yesterday. Bobby Worrest x Krooked First Blood and the Van Wastell x Krooked Square One. Get a pair while they last.

New Women's Oakley shades today too. The new one is called the Foresake and just may be the best sunglasses that Oakley has ever made for the ladies.

Enjoy the day and we'll see you in the water!!!!

All the Highlights!!!!

What a nice day! I checked the cam this morning hoping to see a little longboard wave but I saw was sunshine and flatness. The thought of going for a cruise on the SUP even crossed my mind. But then I thought about putting on my winter suit to go SUP and I was over that idea. Instead I grabbed the skate and cruised to KB's for an iced coffee and a muffin, definitely the better choice! Yesterday I wrote that the swell forecast didn't look to promising but after checking it today it looks like Monday and Tuesday could be pretty fun. I guess will have to wait and see but if it happens we'll all be stoked!

Back to the Boneyard Recap from Waterville Valley this past Tuesday...

Last Call to GET IN THE VAN! Photos from the 1oth annual Last Call at Loon Mtn yesterday.

Some great surfing in good conditions yesterday at the O'neill Cold Water Classic down in Tasmania. John John gets a 10 for a double grab punt into an air reverse. Too bad he got bumped in the next round. Tonight the action resumes with the round of 48. Jordy is on fire right now and other standouts that are surfing really well are Bobby Martinez, Adam Robertson, Corey Lopez, Dion Atkinson, Chris Davidson, and Granger Larson. Any of these guys are threats and the winner is anyones guess at this point. I got a feeling Jordy is due for a win and he is my call for the W.

I forgot to mention the Pro-Lite changing pads/sack we got in the other day. As it gets warmer and we start changing in and out of our suits at the beach this thing is a MUST HAVE!!!! I would be lost without mine. After your session throw it on the ground, strip your suit off, and chinch it up. Your suit stays sand and dirt free and your car stays dry because the sack is water proof. Everyone who gets one of these comes in and tells me how it has changed their life and how they don't know how the lived without it. It's also great to throw on your seat when your driving around checking spots because it keeps your seat from turning into a salt sponge.

Stand on that sucker and strip!

Cinch it up, throw it in the rig, and go!

If your bored check Bede's blog on the ASP site. One Down, Nine to Go. Maybe this will be his year. I got Bede on the Fantasy Team, I'm counting on him at Bells. Enjoy the day, it's a good one!

Lost Boards are in Transit!!!!

What's up Pioneers crew??? Well I don't know about you but I had a really fun little session this morning with some of the gang! The waves were better than I expected with some shoulder high sets pulsing through. Steve just rolled in and said it still looks waist high and fun. Judging by the buoys there should be a little wave in town all day so go out and get a few if you can! I just looked out the window 15 minutes ago and it was SNOWING... after Saturday's 70 degree temps seeing that snow was like getting slapped in the face. At this point neither the swell or weather forecast looks that great but I am sure we can get through it.
Tons of hot stuff in the VAN, check out the Iceland piece and the Wildcat Booter photos.
We still have a handful of Get In The Vans tees in stock so come grab one for $20 bucks and help put a little gas in the Van.

So as the blog title reads Lost has sent our first shipment of 2010 boards. They should be here some time towards the middle to end of next week. The boys over at Lost were kind enough to forward the packing list so I could post what is on the way... so here you go!

Rocket 5'10, 6'0, 6'2
Squashit 5'7, 5'11, 6'1
Motivator 5'6, 5'8, 5'10, 6'0, 6'2, 6'4
Stealth Pro XTR 6'2
No planks yet but Steve at Lost assured me that they are not to far behind! So hang in there.

The UPS man just rolled through and brought us a few new e'S for men and kids along with a limited throwback Huf from DVS. Peep the hotness!!!

Youth

Sad story... Our buddy Nevin was out surfing the other day, claims he had a great session but was so cold when he got out of the water he had to sit in his car to warm up before he could do anything else. While warming up he forgot where he had placed his board but quickly remember when he hammered out of his parking spot. Check the photos, they're worth a thousand words.

Nevin makes his own type of tracks...

Highlights from day one of the Cold Water classic in Tasmania. There use of the word cold is kinda a joke to me... they're wearing what I wear all summer. Just wish I could surf like these dude. Enjoy the day.

My good friend Alexis is a champion... She lives in NYC and we talk often. It just so happened that last year while our Little Miss Molly was fighting her battle, Alexis was in training to run the New York City Marathon in an effort to raise money for the Leaukemia and Lymphoma Society. She felt very connected to the reality of the situation we were facing here, in NH, and after she completed the marathon in NYC I am pretty sure that here mind was made up to do it again. She is doing it again, but this time on a larger scale. This year she is going to run the Paris Marathon, on April 11th, in Molly's honor to again raise money for the LLS. I spoke with her earlier today and I could tell she was getting excited and I could also tell that she was very honored to be running for Molly. She is taking it very serious and every facebook update she posts always has something to do with running. Like I said she is a champion but she does need our help. Alexis raised $3000 dollars last year and her goal this year is to raise $6000. She is about half way there and if anyone can make a small donation to her cause it would mean alot to her, to me, and to Molly. Please click the link HERE where you can make a tax deductible donation to Alexis' RUN FOR MOLLY!!!

Because it is a rainy day and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot happening I am just gonna blast you with some surf and skate videos and news.

Macking Teahupoo on St Patty's days.

O'neill Cold Water Classic in Tasmania starts today. Live feed starts at 2pm. Check it HERE.

One of my favorite surf videos of all time is Secret Machine. They are making a sequel and I can see the same style filming in this mini clip that I love in the full length. This is shot at 600 frames per second, check out the quality of that slow mow.

Highlights from the men's final from the Drug Aware Pro at Margaret River in OZ...

More longboards in from Sector 9 in yesterday. We are so stocked it's crazy!!!!!
Waves tomorrow, should be fun. Get on it early beacuse it will be dropping throughout the day. Good wins and clean waves! GET SOME!

Who knew Surfer could also play Hockey???

If you missed the Surfers v.s. Bruins Alumni game last night then you missed a really really good time. I knew that a few of the local surfers around town had some puck skills but I didn't know that we have 50+ surfers that have some skill! The local boys can play... The Bruins did win and most of the time they were toying with the surfers but I think everyone had a great time. The event raised a ton of money for a great cause and stoke a bunch of people out! Seeing Buck on the ice was priceless! He got good in his five weeks of training. I saw tons of heart out there last night and am proud to call myself a surfer.

Maloof Money Cup is coming to NYC. Check out the rendering of the park that will be built for the contest and left for the skate community of NYC. The Maloof dude are hooking skateboarding up. It is great to see a contest that makes skaters some money and gives back to a community at the same time. Check the full write up from Transworld HERE.

The Drug Aware Pro at Margaret River in western OZ finished up in strong surf this past weekend. The winner was Josh Kerr who defeated Taj in the finals. There where a lot of shake ups and stand out surfers in this contest and definitely got me rethinking my fantasy surfer team. I also found this article from Shea Lopez with his pick for the upcoming Bells contest. If you haven't started your team yet get on it, 7 days till trading is done. Remember to stay up on wave conditions because that is going to be the deciding factor in who you want on your side.

Enjoy the day and enjoy this video of Lost's new surf star, Kohole! Lost boards will be here soon, keep the stoke alive!!!

WELCOME TO THE TEAM NORA!!!

Picture Perfect Day captured by GET IN THE VAN

March 20th 2010... What a day! It's official, today is the vernal equinox, the first day of spring. If the rest of spring is anything like this then we are gonna be STOKED!!! I was freaking out this morning, I rode my bike to the beach in a tee shirt with the dog and watched a bunch of fun looking longboard waves roll through! I didn't go out and I am kicking myself now because of it. But there will be more days to come and after the session I got Thursday afternoon I could not surf for a week and be fine with it. Last weeks swell was so so so good. I was so hot in my winter suit and I think we'll be back into our 4/3 real soon! Today spring, next stop SUMMER!!!

I also have some big new that I want to share with all of you... Pioneers would official like to say to Nora Vasconcellos...

WELCOME TO THE TEAM!!!!

Please click HERE to see the latest video of our new rider just having fun! Note the Pioneers deck and stickers! She's already making us proud!!!

More new gear in today! Sector Nine and Globe Longboards!!! and what a day for cruising on your longboard! If you don't have one it's time!!! Not only will it help your surfing it will give you some street credit and might even help you pick up all those cute girls hanging at the Wall!

If you pay attention to Steve he can teach you a lot of things. Here are a few...

If you do too much of this (surf non stop for four days).... photo by Azure Images

You end up on the ground in pain because your back hurts so bad...

One of the best reasons to have a van is all your boards fit in and one of the best reasons to only surf Lost XTRs is you don't have to put them in a bag... or care about them for that matter... (notice the board bag is empty, chances are the only time that thing has ever seen a board in it is when someone else put one of Steve's board away)

But if your like most people, you do care about your board and you do use a bag. Prolite just showed up yesterday and we are STOCKED!!!

Enjoy the day and well see you out there soon!

Clash of the Icons 2

Surfs up!!! It was sure fun to get another session in this morning. Chest plus sets with off shore winds? Yes please and may I have another! So now that I am at the shop I am checking the buoys and the wind forecast for the day and it looks like things will steadily get smaller but stay clean till dark. I would say it is still waist high and it should hang in that range for most of the day. Maybe the fish or longboard will be the call this afternoon. I am out at 2 and you can be sure I'll be checking it!

So the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach kicks off March 30th and it is sure to be epic. Bells is always one of my favorite contests of the year. Last year the underdog, Robbo, made it all the way to finals! I can still remember Steve freaking out over how well he was surfing. Who knows maybe it will happen again but this time Robbo will win. Or it could be Taj, the boy is on a tear. He may even win the Drug Aware Pro that will conclude this weekend. I definitely left a spot for the trials winner on our Fantasy Surfer page and Taj will be in there too. But the BIG STORY is going to be the CLASH OF THE ICONS 2!!! You can probably remember all the hype last year as Occy and Curren faced off at J-Bay. They surfed two heats and each won one. Well it is all going to get decided at Bells with a winner take all heat. A lot of factors to consider but if Bells is pumping I still got my money on Occy. Check out the write up from Rip Curl HERE.

As we transition into spring here at the shop we have to make room for all the new gear. Snowboard gear is on sale as are our entire stock of winter rubber. All the details are above but the bottom line is we have suits for as cheap as $230 dollars. Maybe you don't need a suit right now but you might next year, now is the time to snag one of our suits on deal price.

Just unpacked a box of some fresh Oakley eye wear. New Frogskins, Dispatch, Fuel Cell, Fives, Hijinx, and gas can glasses in stock NOW! We also got a bunch of Pioneers decks in along with some Aqua Seal and Pro Lite bags, leashes, and traction!

Waves still look fun go get some!

Get Some!

Good afternoon & Happy St. Patty's Day! Well I got to tell you I had a fun session this morning. Buoys are still reading in the 8 to 9 foot range with an eleven second period. The beaches are still looking a little confused but I am willing to bet it has something to do with the sand bars being restructured... As the day goes on I think it will continue to clean up and we'll have waves all day. Looks like tomorrow morning should be pretty good again. Buck is stuck in Detroit and is claiming we have him to thank for this good fortune, but I'm not so sure... I think today it's the luck of the Irish.

The Drug Aware Pro being held at Margaret River in Western Oz is going off. The Men's side of thing is almost narrowed down to 48 and the Women are down to the 24 mark. All of the heavy hitters are in good form and at the moment Taj is on a tear! I am thinking I may have to include him on the Fantasy team for the upcoming Bells event. Check out all the results and the match ups to come HERE. Because of the time difference most of the surfing is happening while we are sleeping but if you happen to be up late there is a live webcast at the Drug Aware Pro website.

Check out all the action from today...

Our Volcom spring orders continue to pour in... Yesterday we got a box of youth Volcom that weighed 40 lbs. That's alot of gear. Tons of the freshest gear for the little men of the world like tees, tanks, trunks, cords, jeans, hats, backpacks, and belts. Our kids department is INSANE. If you bring your kid in to get some new clothing I can tell you for sure he is going to look like a pro skater once we are done with him. Check out some of the photos below!

These are just a sampling of the new gear and remember we have sizes from 2T all the way to youth XL. And our youth shoe selection is always on point!

Enjoy this beautiful day and don't forget Surfers vs Bruin Alumni this Sunday. Tickets are selling fast and at $10 each it will be worth it.... Did I mention Buck will be playing.... Like I said it will be worth it. We still have a fist full of tickets here at the shop so get one while they last.

I SEE THE LIGHT!!!

The sun is out! The wind has calmed down and the waves are shaping up! It's so nice out that I have already forgotten about the hell we went through over the past four days. With sun and temps in the 50s all week all we'll have is a bunch of fun waves to remind us of this past weekends storm. At the moment the wind is still out of the north and the waves are pretty unorganized but a few spots are starting to show some rideable walls. Wind will go NW over night and more westerly in the morning tomorrow. Waves should still have some size but be much more organized and lined up. Your best bet is to check Steve's morning report either by phone or internet for condition at sunrise.

Our buddy Greg who also happens to be the local O'neill rep rolled through the shop this morning spreading some stoke and some insight into the upcoming years wetsuit line. Steve and I are both stoked on what O'neill has going on. The Psycho Freak is still Epic and the redesigned Heat is going to be the deal as far as next years winter suits go. I am still loving the Mutant for is versatility and value. And we can't forget the O'neill epic which gives you tons of features and quality at a budget price.

However, the NEW suit that has me really STOKED!!! is the all new Psycho RG8 (regenerate). This suit features an all new ultraflex RG8 neoprene which is an environmentally concise product. In most cases 30 to 40% of neoprene used to make wetsuits never makes it out of the factory. Most of it tends to be scraps that are too small to use in a wetsuit. O'neill and thier global partners have figured a way to turn all those old scraps into a new useable neoprene that is the heart of the Psycho RG8. On top of that they are using recycled plastics on both the inner and outer later of the suit and I can tell you that they feel really good and smooth. Most of your ecofriendly suits today are made from a Limestone based neoprene. O'neill has been using that technology just as long as anyone and the original rubber in the RG8 is no different. Chest-zip, super stretchy, and it looks really solid. Be on the lookout for this suit later this summer in 4/3s and 3/2s.

Ups man just showed up! Tons and Tons of Deluxe wood and wheels. Anti Hero, Krooked, Real, and Spitfire! These boards always go so fast, come get one while they last...

Anti Hero, enough said...

Krooked Pro Decks, along with a Zip Zagger and a Zip Zinger Complete, so sick!

Real Wood! Also a Haiti Relief board, all proceeds to the people who need them.

Tons and tons of wheels. F1 street and park burners, Pro models, softies, we got it all plus some Anti Hero Trucker Hats.

The view from the table. This is usually all sea grass...

Good morning & greetings. Welcome to another gorgeous New England day... The temp is in the low forties, the wind is blowing at a steady 35 mph, and the humidity, yeah that's at 100%. Most secondary roads are flooded, the ocean road is covered in ocean, rocks, and foam, and a majority of the Seacoast is without power. That majority include Pioneers and I am currently writing this blog from my kitchen table staring out over a very flooded tidal marsh. Everybody I've talked to today has had something to say about their sump pump, the lake in their yard, or the leak in their roof. At the moment I am high enough to stay dry but with an hour plus till high tide I am crossing my fingers. The buoys are reading at 20+ feet and with high tide in about 30 minutes the coast is the happening place to be.

My dog is so over being stuck in the house for 3 days straight...

There is however a silver lining to this cloud. This big nasty front is going to leave us at some point tomorrow and once it does out will come the sun and west will go the winds. There will be waves all week long and on top of that we are going to have sunshine and temps in the 50s!!!! Until that happens stay low and away from leaning trees. Keep an eye on your basement and make sure your children and pets don't go for a swim in the back yard.

Fantasy Surfer... I've heard lots about it. I've checked it out. But I've never got into it. Between juggling blogs, facebook accounts, emails, and twitter I kinda feel like an internet junkie and yesterday was a boring enough day where my opinion on Fantasy Surfer changed. I created a Pioneers account and I will be keeping track of both our men's and women's teams throughout this upcoming year of worldwide events. The basic idea is before every event you get to pick a team of surfers. If the surfers you pick place well then you win prize money that lets you trade and buy surfers who have higher points values. Your team can and should change depending on events and wave predictions. The next event is the RipCurl Pro at Bells Beach (get ready for clash of the icons part 2) which is a right handed point so I chose some strong regular footed surfers who can do real nice turns and know how to find a barrel or two. I even include the wild card spot $1,500 in hopes that Robbo does it again and wins this time. Check the site out if you want it is a great way to waist a miserable day like today.

My Men's team which could change after I have a consult with co-owner Stevie. I want to find a way to get Jordy and Bede on there but they are fetching a hefty price tag!!!

A lovely list of ladies who I think will do quite well at Bells and earn our franchise some Cash Money!!!

So call the shop phone if you need something. If we're there we'll pick it up, if not try back in a few hours and hopefully we'll be in there making it happen and getting ready for all the good waves to come!

The Van just rolled through and dropped of a short run of VINTAGE Get in the Van tees. The above logo on a straight black tee. We have a handful of large tees, a few mediums, and a few smalls. Tees are $20 and all the profit goes to putting GAS IN THE VAN. These shirts are originals from three years ago and will never be recreated. These shirts will become part of NH surf history. Get one while they last! And while we are talking about the Van there is lots of new content up lately. New episode of the Dug show, and if you wanna get something off your chest you can call the Van at 207.229.4145. Go ahead give them a call and let them have it.

The storm that is about to role through is going to be a solid little system. With high wind warnings be on the look out for some 60+ mph gusts and buckets of rain. The waves are going to be huge and out of control all day tomorrow and most of Monday. Check out the above image I grabbed from GOMOOS of the swell mid day tomorrow. Better go get your gun and batten down the
hatches.

Steve and I also started the yearly spring cleaning and that usually turns out to be a good thing for all of you. Today we started with the video case and put about 30 videos on sale for $5 bucks. We got some real good ones in the pile and they cover it all, surf, skate, and snow. Tomorrow is gonna be miserable so come grab a few videos to keep yourself sane tomorrow!

Enjoy the day and we'll see you in the water!

This from Buck on the St. Baldrick's Event happening tomorrow!

I am getting mentally prepared to BRAVE THE SHAVE tomorrow afternoon at The Draft in Concord, NH where we’ll going to support the St. Baldrick’s event again this year and the event runs tomorrow from 1:00-5:00 pm. Many thanks to Andy and Lori Sanborn for hosting this event and we’re super stoked to raise a ton of money for Childhood Cancer Research.

Last year we rolled to Concord with an army of our friends and family in order to support the St. Baldrick’s event. Molly attended the fund raiser with us, she was sporting her beautiful “Hannah Montana” wig, and it was an amazing experience having the opportunity to take part in an event that benefited an organization that directly impacted our family. This fall the people at St. Baldrick’s gave me a call, they wanted to keep tabs on Molly’s progress, and when I told them that Molly had lost her battle with cancer I could sense their sadness. Molly’s story was told in the latest issue of the St. Baldrick’s publication, which we received last month, and I will make it point to bring this magazine with me tomorrow for those of you that want to learn about all of the great things that St. Baldrick’s is doing in order help fund Childhood Cancer Research.

If you have some time on your hands tomorrow, please join us at The Draft for the event. I am going to throw down some money and BRAVE THE SHAVE, but don’t think for a moment that you will have to do the same. We would love to have all of you join us because it’s a great time – lots of kids running around, awesome music – and we’re there in order to raise some money for a great organization. Hope see to see ya’ll!

Throwin’ shakas!

Buck
